Howdy,
The last couple days, don't remember exactly, there was an 8 item Microsoft update. A very large one. I allowed it to update and everything seemed to be fine. Then I noticed that my MSE taskbar icon was missing. I could not locate any of it on my computer. I downloaded a copy immediately and reinstalled it. Was this normal, did I do something incorrectly. W7 still like to throw me curve balls. Thanks for any assistance!

I don't suppose you know when and which updates you downloaded and installed?
See Windows Updates and check the Update History (see left side links).

I don't think it was because of the updates. I had the same ones on Wednesday and I still have MSE. You might want to run a scan. Are you sure that MSE didn't just get moved into the Notice only group (the little triangle)?

Here's mine:

Hi Glennc

No that was certainly not normal behaviour. I don't remember seeing any posts about issues with this months updates. The only thing I would say is that just because the tray icon was missing doesn't automatically mean Mse was removed, it may just have been a tray icon issue. Sometimes after I have updated or installed large amounts of softtware It can take a couple of reboots to reconfigure the boot/start-up program sequence again and some of those updates where quite significant in size and took some time to settle again after reboot.(Mainly the .NET updates)

Hello pjhutch,
Pretty sure is was this batch

I did a complete scan with everything I had norton/superantispyware/antimalwarebytes and then with the newly downloaded and updated mse.
Everything came out clean. Have done it several times since.
Thanks
Glenn

Howdy carwiz,
Now that you mention it, I don't have the Notice only group and forgot how to gain access to it. I know I did download it and install it and everything popped back up like it was supposed to. Darn I should have written everything down. I forgot about it until I was asking some other questions. This forum has saved my hide a number of times. Shame about my sanity {:-)!

Hello Danny,
This could have been the case, as it was a .NET download and windows defender. I just did a download and reinstalled. That seemed to happen without a hitch, no error indications. So I just don't know!
Thanks for the assist

Thanks Glenn. Having worked on the aircraft depicted in my signature well over 40 years ago I feel so proud to see it restored and back in the air where it belongs rather than as a museum piece.
