Windows Update and MSE

With Microsoft sneaking files onto our computers in an effort to get us to switch to Windows 10, I have turned off all automatic updating. I search manually for updates after Update Tuesday, and only install what I'm confident is not related to W10. But what about Security Essentials? It performs its own update checks and installations, but will it continue to do so if I've turned off all updating? If so, I can of course just update that manually on a daily basis, but it would be helpful to know.

Yes, it will continue to update itself no matter how Windows Update is set.

You might also look into Malwarebytes Premium as well MSE needs it,
Otherwise switch to Panda.

Thanks Thrash, I will look into it. I have used the free Malwarebytes from time to time. I've been lucky with malware so far, but I do worry whether MSE is enough. I like it because it is so easy on resources and gets along well with other software.

MSE opts not to flag numerous PUPs. Malwarebytes flags those. If your periodic Malwarebyte scans come up empty, then the paid version would only be for convenience. (Or maybe I'm missing something in my reasoning.)

You won't miss MSE I don't
Panda seems to be a happy camper with mbam premium and sas pro.

It was just time for me to move away from MSE but regardless Panda is much better
I would suggest it with the free mbam and do as you have always done with scanning periodically

No you're not missing anything UNI but mbam premium would be for the real time protection MSE needs imho
