I don't recall turning on the Vacation Notice in Windows Live Mail but, nevertheless, it's on. Senders receive an e-mail from my Live account with the subject "Vacation reply" and no text, just my given name.

Where is the control used to turn it off? I can't locate it.

It's possible that the message is from your ISP rather then WLM. In WLM you need to create a message rule, and leave your PC on, with WLM open all the time for it to work. Who is your ISP? That may help us figure this out. A Guy

There is no setting in WLM re Vacation Notice. You need to access your account directly and look at the settings or options.

It's possible that the message is from your ISP rather then WLM.

No kidding? Well, the timing may match an upgrade to my Internet service from the same ISP.

My ISP was Qwest. Qwest's Internet service, Telechoice, was acquired by CenturyLink. CenturyLink upgraded the Internet service and that may be when the vacation notice started. (I can't tell for certain 'cause I have to rely on e-mail senders telling me about it.)

Anyway to be clear—my ISP is CenturyLink.

From their FAQs

Creating away messages (Back to Top)

This feature is also known as an out-of-office auto-reply message. You can set a vacation message that automatically replies to people who send you messages when you are out of the office for an extended period of time. That message is sent to each recipient only once, regardless of how many messages that person sends you during the designated vacation period.
To set a vacation message:

Click the Preferences tab.

Click the Mail tab.

In the Receiving Messages section, check Send auto-reply message.

In the text box, enter the message to be sent, such as "I am currently out of the office and am checking voice mail but not email. I will return on August 1, 2007."

Set the start and end dates for using this message.

Click Save. The away message feature is enabled immediately.

Best I could find from them. I suspect there is no message, just the feature is turned on. If you don't find this setting, I'd contact them and let them know you have this issue since the switch. A Guy

I don't see "Preferences" under any tab or subtab. Isuspect that those instructions don't apply to my version of Windows Live Mail.

I went to the mailbox I automatically received with my Internet access. I don't use it. I found what you listed Preferences/Mail/Receiving Messages/Send auto-reply message. It wasn't checked.

I don't see how this e-mail setting would affect WLM even if it were checked. CenturyLink just carries the messages to me, like a pneumatic pipe.

I watched the woman in the youtube video, Windows Live Hotmail - Vacation Reply Setup - YouTube, explain Vacation Notice and saw that she was on a web site www.live.com. Interestingly, my WLM is not Internet based. Mine is software on C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe. (BTW, that is as poor an industrial training or overview video as I have ever seen. Microsoft should be ashamed. I've seen better by Junior High students.)

So I went to www.live.com and Outlook.com opened. I searched and found that Outlook.com had a vacation notice set with my given name as the message. It's exactly as was described to me.

I removed the check and the text.

Evidently WLM software, live.com and outlook.com are all the same interchangeable e-mail address and settings in one affect the other

Ahhh, my bad, I should have thought that it was Live rather then your provider :o Glad you got it sorted. Yes, your Microsoft account will work with Outlook.com, Skype, OneDrive, etc. A Guy

This is so bizarre! Two weeks ago I marked this thread as solved after changing a check-box in Outlook.com to shut the vacation notice off. I didn't know was that it didn't shut off until someone told me. I opened Outlook.com to find this at the bottom of the screen—

VacationNoticeOn.jpg

I use the dialog box to turn it off but it doesn't "take."

My home is all Windows; desktops, notebooks, tablet and smartphone. Windows gives me angina. I grew tired of struggling with it years ago. I may put them all on Craig's List and buy Apple.

WLM the program syncs to WLM on the web, as long as you sign in with a Live Account EVERYTHING you set on WLM the program will be set on WLM on the website and visa versa.
The only way this does not happen if you do NOT sign in and just use WLM with a regular pop account. not related at all with WLM

Thank you for your thoughts. Please expand on this and tell me how it relates to my inability to stop the vacation notice.

Oh, that decodes it. Thanks.

I was aware of that and did it several times but it didn't "take." Someone pointed out to me that the SAVE button is not visible unless the user scrolls down. I saved my change and all seems to be okay.

Thanks to all of you for taking the time to help.
