Windows Live Movie Maker - How to match pics with music?

Hello,
I'm fairly new at movie/video making and hoping there's some info out there that can help solve an issue.
I need to make a short video, 1-3 mins. long.
Basically, I need a variety of still-pics to appear on-screen & match the rhythm of the background music as it plays.
Has anyone seen the videos of the Christmas light houses that turn on and off in sync with the music of The Trans-siberian Orchestra?
That's what I'm trying to accomplish, but with pics. So, at certain points throughout the music, one or multiple pictures with flash-appear on the screen (i.e., instead of the light(s) turning on/off, my pics appear/disappear).
Does anyone know if this is possible? And if so, any insight on the process (step-by-step) on how to accomplish such a task?

Welcome to the forums. Movie maker is very basic hitfilm express is a free movie maker that can do this with ease. You need to be able to have a time line that you can move sound etc around. There are lots of tutors on YouTube for hitfilm. Filmoria is very good but it's paid for but it is cheap used by most YouTube
