Windows Media Player 12: 500 Internal Server Error

Has anyone run in to this. When I right click an album and try and use the "Find Album Info" I get the 500 Internal Error - There is a Problem with the resource you are looking for and it cannot be displayed. However, if I use the "Update Album Info" it will work for a little while but only sometimes kicks the error. It was working fine 3 days ago then all of a sudden quit.

Media Player Meltdown

I'm glad I am not the only one. I regularly use Media Player for managing my workspace home audio; I have some add-ins to manage FLAC files, but (with a few finicky set-up rules) it mostly works seamlessly.

I had a number of album updates to compile over the weekend, and the program cannot look anything up now (partly because in my case, I have to use the type-in album lookup interface). While I had worried/presumed it was something on my end (I use Windows 8, but did recently add the "classic shell"), an "Internal Server Error 500" typically means it is not my end.

Like you, I could sometimes get to the lookup page, but then it would default to the "Internal Server Error" response when I tried to select a library-album. I've started to consider other options, such as AudioMonkey. I rip using dBpoweramp. I do like WMP as it is part of the operating system and like things to be as smooth as possible.

I had to post as yours is the first post I've seen, anywhere, and this problem has been going on at least since September 9th, 2014.

Same here. I thought it was my computer. I have Media Monkey installed, but I really hate to try and edit 25K songs all over again.

It will let me search on just one song. That's more than what it had been doing, but still aggravating! I guess I could add info song by song :sarc:

The good news is that it will still find CD info when you go to add a CD.

I ran into this as well. Selfishly, I'm glad it's not just me.

I Have the Same Issue

I get the same "500 internal server error" message when I try to use 'find album info'. Was working just fine about a week ago, but not now. Like everyone else, I have over 500gbs of clean full album mp3 files and sure do not want to try to retag all of them. I use Mediaplayer as my playback and library orginazier, but I do my ripping using Exact Audio Copy/LAME and then import the files into Media Player, so getting the album info when ripping is not an option for me. Exact Audio Copy extractor and LAME encoder make a professional quality mp3 that is superior to even Media Player set at 320. Hey Microsoft, how 'bout a fix?

There is a "back door" around this, though I don't like it as well. You can still add the files to a playlist and edit them from there. It will allow you to edit all the necessary information about genre, album, artist, etc. The only issue I find is that sometimes it won't show the album art past the first song if you do it this way. It's a temporary fix for now though.

Possible Connection?

My problem seems to have started to occur about the same time I configured WMP to share (i.e. act as a DLNA server). Does this sound familiar to anyone with the problem?

The problem occurs on a very old system (XP) that has been working for years. There have been no system updates recently since XP is no longer supported. I also have a Win 7 computer but am reluctant to start using WMP there if there is a DLNA issue.

Server Is Problem

Reviewing Microsoft support pages indicates that the problem is widespread and affects multiple Windows versions. Microsoft has yet to own up to the issue -- their credibility appears to be suffering. I guess we just wait for Microsoft to fix their server.

I am also experiencing this issue as well. It is def. a server issue. Don't expect it to come back though, with windows 8 and windows 9 soon out. Microsoft just might be shutting it down :/

Your awesome for reading this.
Windows Media Player 11 & 12

My recommendation to all is to download Microsoft's Zune player. It's pretty easy to use and tagging albums isn't too difficult. I like WMP 11 & 12, but either the powers that be are taking their sweet time to fix this "500-Internal Server Error" or they are subtly discontinuing WMP.:)

I agree with andrew129260 about the possible termination of WMP.
