Windows Media Player bugs after migrating to SSD

Hi,

I recently purchased a new Samsung SSD for my machine and not wanting to do a fresh install of Windows due to the large amount of data on my system, I used Paragon Migrate OS to SSD to move my OS over to the SSD. The process completed successfully, and I changed some registry settings so that all the user data was on my HDD, not the SSD. This also completed successfully, but I started experiencing several different bugs with WMP.

WMP doesn't seem to be saving its library properly, as everytime I restart my computer and open it, it has to rescan for its files, which takes quite a while and is very annoying, the library also seems to be duplicating itself sometimes, as it randomly adds 2 of every song, a restart of WMP fixes this, but it has to scan for music all over again. I am also unable to add music to the libaray by simply dragging and dropping the folder containing the music onto the window, I have to manually select the files themselves inside the folder instead.

I've tried deleting the WMP library files and tried reinstalling it via the "Turn Windows Features On or Off" feature, neither of which have fixed it.

Any help with this problem that doesn't involve a fresh Windows install would be much appreciated.

Jamerst I had a sort of similar problem with duplication in that once the music file for example is saved to WMP then you need to delete it from the music library in the star menu.
Then delete the duplicate from WMP.
At least that is what I found was happening when I tried deleting stuff from WMP but still found the same stuff there when trying to burn CD's.

Yes I just left one copy in WMP by removing the duplicate and the library entry.

I'm unable to do that due to the fact that the library won't save, so it just happens again and again.

Hi there
Note : this is NOT the answer to your question - but merely a suggestion so if you still want answers to your original topic please simply ignore this post..

There really isn't any reason to use WMP any more - there are so many better applications (and more flexible) too including VIDEO that I'm surprised people are still USING WMP.

VLC plays (straight out of the box) almost any AUDIO AND VIDEO codec known -- and will play any region DVD's in Software mode -- none of that hardware 5 times switching and then locked stuff -- while there are zillions of quite nice Audio players if you want a specialized one with music library handling etc.

I'm still believe it or not using Winamp - but you can use things like Media monkey etc etc.

You can import / convert your WMV files to other more sensilble formats -- mp4 / mkv are usually good ones to use for video, for Audio I use WAV and FLAC but mp3 is easy enough.

The only problem I can see if you are unlucky enough to have got files riddled with DRM -- you need to remove that to convert the files first.

Then your libraries are totally safe and you can use / copy at will. I HATE proprietary data bases / libraries for my own stuff - if it breaks then you are stuck. Systems using simple directory structures work best and with large CHEAP storage available why would you WANT to use WMV any more.

Cheers
jimbo

I do realise that not many people really use WMP anymore, and I have many of those programmes already installed, but from past experience I have found that they don't seem to like my music libary at all, with many of my tags being lost from the files etc. I'm already using mp3 and mp4 for both music and video, because they're much smaller and I can use them Apple devices without messing around with converting them. I am considering moving over to a new player however, as WMP has always been slightly buggy and outdated. What would you reccommend as the best?
