I'm not a fan of Windows Media Player. I downloaded AIMP 2.61 build 560 from CNET and installed it. No matter how many times I enabled all audio file types -including playlists and both applied and saved; whenever I would close the window and reopen it, the associations were gone. If I applied and saved, closed the program and put in a CD; it always opened with Win 7 Media Player. When I manually open the installed program, none of the associations are there. I also right clicked and ran the program as administrator. It didn't help. I uninstalled the AIMP and installed the VideoLAN - VLC media player. I got the exact same results. It will not keep file associations, all music files and CD's continue to open with Win 7 Media Player.
It's as if Windows is overriding my choices, not allowing these programs to become the default player.
Any suggestions on how I can correct this - and your preference for an additional music player are appreciated.
P.S. All I need are basics - play different file types, download CBBD info, and have a playlist. I don't use iPod, sync with anything, or by music online.
Thanks
