My HP Elite 8100 PC was giving 5 beeps upon powering up. I suspected the motherboard was at fault so called HP's techincal support and they confirmed this. As my product is under warranty they sent me a new motherboard.
I fitted it and the PC turned on ok and I saved the new config but it does not boot Windows. It gives me the options to run 'Startup Recovery' which does nothing at all and 'Start Windows Normally' which just loops back to this option screen.
I called HP back and they say I shouldn't have had to have done anything else to enable the new motherboard to work so sent me another one and the same thing has happened.
Does anybody have any ideas?

   Information
We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's app the first day you had your new PC.

& made the Startup Repair CD.

1) HP/Compaq sent the wrong MOBO.
2) As you had a faulty MOBO, you may now have a faulty Recovery Partition.
3) As you had a faulty MOBO, you may now have a faulty HD Drive.

I would Check the hard drive with the manufacturer's diagnostic tools.

When you replace a mobo under warrenty, it should be set to the same ID as the old one. That can be done by the HP guys (or ask them how to do it yourself). For that you have to know the ID of the old mobo.

If you do not do that, you will get further problems with the Windows activation.

One simple thing to try. Boot up in safe mode. Let completely boot up, it may reinstall some drivers. If that completes fine, then reboot normally...

I have tried all of the above with no success. It was the OEM version of Windows 7 that came with the machine.

It sounds like you have a BIOS option set differently (such as IDE mode or AHCI for the SATA controllers) or you don't have the plugs back in the identical spots.
