I was using PRIMAVERA program and wanted to record my activities with CAMTASIA. After a couple of minutes of recording WINDOWS gave a dialogue box warning that WINDOWS DON'T HAVE ENOUGH RESOURCES AVAILABLE, it suggested that I should run windows in classic view. so I chose it. But after a while it still seemed not enough coz my cursor keeps on fading. So I set the advance system setting to maximize for performance mode. Thankfully I got through the day without having anymore problems so far but I'm just wondering if there's any way to increase the resources without having to sacrifice the visual styles? Please help out.

Win 7 32bit can utilize about 3.25 gigs of ram out of y our 4. The resources they may be referring to is RAM, paging file, or HD space.

The only way you can increase your ram is if your machine can run 64 bit and you add ram. 32bit is maxed out at 4.

You are using some very resource intensive apps and if you need to, I suggest you find out if your machine can run 64bit.

My system is 64-bit compatible but I don't intend to change to 64-bit anytime soon.

I read in the SYSTEM INFORMATION part of my laptop that i have only 2.99GB available. Does this mean that the maximum ram that my unit can utilize is only 2.99GB?

How about this pagefile thing? What's the use for this pagefile? Is it okay if I modify it to free more resources?

Only CAMTASIA and PRIMAVERA were running when I made that recording and it hogged all my resources. Please help

Camtasia by itself will use the remaining ram.

My system running Camtasia has 8 gigs and it is barely enough.

In the absence of the /PAE switch, the Windows memory manager is limited to a 4 GB physical address space. Most of that address space is filled with RAM, but not all of it. Memory-mapped devices (such as your video card) will use some of that physical address space, as will the BIOS ROMs. After all the non-memory devices have had their say, there will be less than 4GB of address space available for RAM below the 4GB physical address boundary.

Thanks mars, the link could have been written in chinese. I won't try to comprehend the explaination to save myself from severe nosebleed. So, what if I enable the TURBO BOOST TECHNOLOGY? Will it help?

My best guess is ... it should help. Seems like the jury is still out on that. Some folks report serious lag at startup as the flash drive tries to integrate itself into the system. Others say if you use a good high quality flash, lag is not a problem. Since you're using some heavy duty apps I would personally think it will help ... but how much help is an unknown factor.

mars, I was talking about TURBO BOOST for my i5 processor. It is disabled by default and I can enable it at the services section in computer management. Would it help? Also, I have a 8GB sony flash that is READY BOOST compatible so i'll use that too.

My bad. :o Seems like my one remaining brain cell suffered from stack overflow. :)

I would definitely recommend enabling Turbo Boost. Once enabled it will kick in on an as needed basis. Anything that can boost performance is a plus IMO.

Processors — Intel® Turbo Boost Technology frequently asked questions

One caution, however. Turbo Boost (when engaged) can dramatically increase operating temperature so make sure you have good ventilation.

Go to Start and type in resmon, that will show you what Windows 7 is doing with your ram. Don't fool with it just look. If you are using a lot of ram check out msconfig from Start and un-check programs you don't need at start up. Windows 7/32 should run quite well with 4 gigs of ram when set up properly. Get back to us on your findings.

You might get it back using a restore point. You can also check in the Recycle Bin and restore it. Now to get back to your first post. Any computer using CAD (which some how you forgot to mention before) will need a lot of memory (ram) to work properly. Which IMHO requires Windows 7/64 and more ram.
