Solved Windows only detecting 8 og 32 - GB RAM.

I recently upgraded my stationary computer with a bunch of new components, just harddisks remaining. Anyway, I bought 32GB RAM, might've been a bit overkill, but RAM is cheap these days. The motherboard support up to 64GB RAM and I'm running Windows 7 64bit. The RAM is 4*8GB, but in windows it only detects 8GB RAM. What can be the cause of this and how do I fix it?

try downloading cpuid or speccy and check how much the system detects and in what slot it is detected in, after that reboot and check the bios, report back

Very slow reply here, other things got in the way making the computer less of a priority. I've been in BIOS and found some concerning information. I've installed RAM in DIMM A1, B1, C1, D1. As it's what the manual said was most efficient. Information on the BIOS says:

A1: OK
A2: N/A
B1: N/A
B2: N/A
C1: Abnormal
C2: N/A
D1: Abnormal
D2: N/A

I suppose I should change the location of the A1 and see what difference that makes, to see if it's the motherboard or RAM pieces? Anything else that could cause it ?

Remember Home premium 64bit can only use 16gb anyway, so depending on your OS 32gb could be a waste!!

I guess my first thought would be to try each individual stick in slot 'A1' to see whether it works. You may have faulty sticks.

I agree. The first port of call when Windows fails to recognise the full amount of RAM that you have installed is to check to see whether or not it is being recognised in the BIOS, because if the BIOS can't detect it during POST then the OS won't be able to either. As Nigsy has suggested, try each stick on its own in turn in Slot A1 to see if it is recognised.

Install 8 or 16 gigs of ram according to the mother board manual and see what Windows 7 sees.

I tried swapping about to see if it was the motherboard, slots or RAMs that was at fault. However changing the spot of all RAMs solved the problem. I believe I've just done a poor job at assembly and that the three others were poorly attached and had bad contact. anyway, problem solved
