System: W7 x64 Home Premium all patches up to date

I am getting involuntary reboots on my W7 system. When I check the event viewer the only thing I can tie it to is the shutdown of the VSS service (as this happens before the reboot).

This is what the log says:

The VSS service is shutting down due to idle timeout.
Event ID = 8224

This is the data shown in the Details Tab:

Does anyone have any idea what I can do to fix this?

Thanks,

Hi Karlsnooks, that's the curious thing - I haven't made any recent changes to this system for a while. After a problem with Mozy that briefly caused BSODs I rolled back to an earlier state and then decided not to install any new software or hardware for a while just to make sure things were ok.

I haven't installed any new hardware for several months and no new software after the Mozy rollback. The only thing I've done is to update security patches.

I thought it could be a VSS thing but I'm far from expert on these matters!

I'm not an expert on VSS but:

The final version of the product, Visual SourceSafe 2005, will retire from mainstream support on 12 April 2011 with extended support ending on 12 April 2016

In the meantime, can you use SERVICES.MSC to disable the vss service?

As said, I've no experience with VSS.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Visual_SourceSafe#cite_note-9

Err, no, by VSS I meant Volume Shadow Copy Service (used by System Restore service, I believe).
