Windows Seven isnt Seven?

I just learned, what you guys probably know already... Windows seven isnt NT 7.0 but 6.1 which makes it an upgrade to Vista? Whats up with that? They name it seven, but its not seventh?

Well, with all the bad press that Vista got, at least before the service packs, I'm sure they wanted to make it sound way different than Vista.

The analogy I heard to describe the difference is kinda funny. A guy I know said "imagine Vista as a fat, wimpy guy, and Win 7 as the same guy after going through a Special Forces boot camp.....leaner and meaner".

I'll leave it to the experts here to say how accurate that analogy is....and I mean no offense to the overweight....I'm not as slim as I used to be either.

From what I've always heard, Windows 7 is in fact NT 7.0 but it reports itself as 6.1 so it doesn't break compatibility with existing applications. Whether that's true or not, I can't say, but it'll probably be debated until 7 reaches its EOL.

nah.. it's vista service pack 3, renamed windows 7 so the microsaur could package it and sell it for $200 a copy instead of offering it for free as an update..

Not directed towards you but, I love how people just say W7 is Vista SP3 when they obviously don't know anything and just judge it by the UI.

Its a full OS, not an update. SP's are not meant to reshape the OS completely.

Refine it, yes, reshape it, no.
