A similar piece of coding laziness is responsible for the vast majority of programs that will only run as administrator.
maybe that's why COD 4 requires UAC prompt in order to run.. hmmm thanks

ME was the last DOS-based OS2K was 5.0 and XP was 5.1, not sure what ME was. Was ME even based on an NT kernel ?
EDIT: Looks like ME was the last of the 9x series of operating systems from Microsoft and not part of the NT family. At least thats what i get from a quick Google search.
Some of the younger members might not remember floppies.....at least not when they still really were floppy, like the 5.25".Yes ME was MS Dos 8 and 95/98 was MS Dos 7/7.1. Oh boy here we go with another Microsoft numbering scheme. I think 6.22 was the last full stand alone version you could get on floppies.![]()
I wonder why they don't make it public. Because I used to love Vista. Before I got my hands on Win7, I thought Vista was the greatest thing since sliced bread. XP was the worst version of Windows I ever used, and I have been using Windows since the 3.1 days.
. There was also the dumbing down of the interface and reduced included functionality that came with XP Home. Also of course professional people hated the plastic, cartoon graphic, interface.
, I was around before floppies existed. My mother was a programmer for the state, back in the 70s when external storage meant a warehouse full of punch cards
