Windows software not picking up mic

i have a built in mic on my computer and my windows software will not pic it up. I know it works because it will work on facebook skype.

If it works with Skype, that may have it "captured" and won't work anywhere else? Stop (exit) Skype and then see if the mic works with other programs.

Also, please fill in the "My Ssystem Specs", it helps to know what hardware you have, for someone to try and help you.
