Hello,

I want to Auto Start the Trim.exe

So far I have Trim Registry -> Machine Run "C:\Utilitys\Misc\Trimcheck-0 4.exe" -hide

What do I need to add so it will trigger the enter key to start and the enter command to exit?

Thank You !

The way I understand it, it's built-in and automatic with win7; If you have trim support turned on, and your ssd can accept the trim cmds from the OS.

Run
Code:
fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify
in an elevated CMD prompt, if the result returned is zero [DisableDeleteNotify = 0] it's on and win7 will take care of it if the ssd's trim setting is on.

Do you have the Plextool? It can check if your ssd is ready to accept those cmds, it can also turn trim on if its off for some reason. Plextor SSD Storage Solutions | Support | FAQ the FAQS has a download link for the tool; Or you could go here: TRIMcheck: A FREEWARE TRIM TESTER | The SSD Review and Technology X Forums for a different utility that only checks if the ssd can accept the trim cmd from the OS.

Can you explain why you feel the need to run the trim manually with a command? In the meantime I'll see if I can get a few other members to look at your request.

Hello,

All I want is what Dos command to add to any startup program like ( -mini ) that will trigger the enter command and exit command.

The trim command seems to clean up the SSD and is used on many SSD tweaking programs. I'm just curious ;)

Thank You Very Much !

Hi,
Trim is run from the ssd's firmware
Windows has little to do with the operation since win-7 was developed well before ssd's were popular,

To run trim the machine needs to be powered up but with no disk activity then the ssd's firmware kicks in
You can call this hibernation or hybrid sleep if you'd like to.

Two ways you can force trim
1) Is to enter your mother board bios and let it stay that way over night.
2) Is to get a dual hot sway bay and only connect the power to it with no data connection.
Shutdown and insert the ssd into the bay with no data cable connected to it.

The first bay would obviously have to have another ssd or hdd in it and booted to another operating system sort of a old school dual boot :)

To be honest I can not understand what you mean by "Enter/Exit". Trimcheck is just a checker, so it is not trimming anything.

Problem with using "Run" registry settings would be that some elements required might not have loaded yet. So you can try "Current User" (HKCU) instead of "Local Machine" (HKLM).

With Win7 Pro and up I would also try Group Policy (Local Computer policy) with a startup script.
Perhaps there are 3rd party apps for this too. This one is for Suspend/Restore for example - https://win7suspendresume.codeplex.com/

If I may Rockit, I'm going to embellish part's of your last two posts, I'll admit it took me awhile to wrap my head around what you needed:

Hello,

The trim command seems to clean up the SSD and is used on many SSD tweaking programs. I'm just curious ;)

That is all I'm looking for.

TZ, GokAy, and anyone else that would like to pitch in; Rockit only used trim.exe as an example, I believe what s/he would like to do is to learn how, if there is a DOS CMD to automatically start and then stop and close any program after it has performed its function.

I believe it is possible to do what you want, but you may have to use task scheduler to start the process of opening the CMD prompt and then a batch file to open and run the particular program you wanted to run.

This link: Start - Start a program | Windows CMD | SS64.com can show different ways to open and run a program from the CMD prompt, scroll to near the bottom for the examples. Here's one that may be of value:

Start a program and wait for it to complete before continuing:
Code:
START "" /wait autocad.exe
There is a reason why the double quotes are being used, but my CMD skills are so rusty, I think it's used as an escape.
