Recently whenever I restarted my laptop windows stops working. I get the message "The application is not responding. The program may respond again if you wait". I end the proccess and sometimes it reloads (and if it does it just goes throught the same thing again) or just seems to freeze up. I can run the system in safe mode just fine. I have done virus and malware scans to make sure it was not something from that. I also did a system restore to a previous time when it was working fine to no sucess.

have done a sfc scan - it found errors but still have the same issue when I try and boot not in safe mode.

running AVG scan in safe mode, getting a number of errors on the cmd prompt screen:

error 0xe0010058 : c:\Documents and settings\
error 0xe0010053 : c:\hiberfil.sys
error 0xe0010058 : c:\ProgramData\Documents\

to list a few

I have no audio when in safe mode - when I try and turn the audio on it does a troubleshoot and I get the message: One or more audio service not running.

Did sfc scan fix the errors?

Have you ever messed with the Registry in any way, even such as "cleaning" it?

It's normal to have no audio in Safe Mode because only the bare essentials are loaded.

sfc said it had fixed the errors but I still get the same issue on start-up

I do run Advanced System Care 6 - which does have a registry clean function

Have you actually used the Registry cleaning function? Cleaning the Registry has a long history of sometimes deleting false positives.

I would not run Advanced System care as it causes problems, as do all optimizers and tweaking tools except CCleaner.

AVG is also not recommended by anyone here. Use Microsoft Security Essentials with the Win7 Firewall, keep Windows Updates set to Automatic to get all security, performance and driver updates.

Use on-demand Malwarebytes scanner, upgrade to real-time protection if you get infected much.

For now work through these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start

it's normal scan does have a registry fix - It does back-up the registery as far as I can tell as I can restore it

If there is a recent backup that was created before this problem began happening, then I recommend using it. Otherwise, I don't know what your other options would be.
