Windows Update Center Says I'm Up to Date, but I'm not

Hello. New member-first post.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium x64. I have the preferences with Windows Update set to automatically download and install updates. When right-clicking Computer > Properties, I find I do not have SP1 installed however, when I visit the Windows Update Centerand check for updates, it says I am up to date.

Can anyone provide a reason why the discrepancy?

Is this ongoing or on a relatively fresh install?
Have you rebooted since the last updates were applied?

Exactly what build number does it say you do have?
Can easily be found by using dxdiag it'll be one the first page.

Seems to be ongoing. Some updates were installed yesterday. The computer has been rebooted several times in the last 24 hours. Windows Update history shows several updates over recent days/months. Just doesn't seem to install or offer SP1.

Sorry, not familiar with dxdiag... can you work me through this?

just type dxdiag in the start bar search box
you can answer no to the question it'll ask answering yes will just make it take longer.
Info will be on the first tab of the window that appears.

yeah that's the same window as right clicking my computer and choosing properties.

dxdiag says Windows 7 Home Premium (6.1 build 7600). Also, should have said earlier that this is not a fresh install of W7. It was the original installation that came on the laptop when pruchased.

okay well you are definitely missing it, (should be 7601) let's try this route.

This is getting exceedingly rare I actually found this info on MS's site instead of here...
Seems to cover all the bases though.

You do not have the option of downloading Windows 7 SP1 when you use Windows Update to check for updates

Not familiar with the Pause key. Using a Dell laptop. Can't find anything on the keyboard with that name or Break key either.

Don't worry about that, it's just the shortcut for opening the system properties window, which you were doing by right clicking my computer and choosing properties.
...same window.

OK. I'll work through those steps and post back shortly.

Yeah, sorry to put you through the multistage process, but windows update issues can be incredibly difficult to trace (at least in so much as I have very often found the associated logs to be completely useless) so the general approach is just to try and cover all bases.

...if you feel like it you can always zip and upload the windowsupdate.log from
c:\windows
(or where ever it is your root windows directory is located, that is the default)

I just can't promise it's going to help...

Check the post I made above, I think it will sort you out.

Worked through the methods listed:

1. SP1 is not listed.
2. No pending updates.
3. Safe Central not installed.
4. Listed drivers are not installed according ro dxdiag (I have igdumd64 drivers installed)
5. V-lite not used to customize W7.
6. This is the final step and the webpage shows several files listed. Any idea which one to choose for my machine?

The main largest one, the dvd image.
It's the only one that contains absolutely everything you could possibly need.
Sadly the size is a tad high.

Do you know how to burn a iso image file?

Yes, I should be able to burn the ISO file. I will most likely tackle this later today.

Any idea why this is not available through the Update Center (just curious)?

No the logs didn't really clear much of anything up for me either.
Other than to tell you there was an insane amount of activity on the 14th of last month.
Nothing seems to have produced any errors though.

WU did not offer me (and many others) SP1 until the Intel HD graphics driver was updated.
