I suspect that you have other problems also - the error means that a service is no longer installed.
HAve you been using a Registry Cleaner of some kind? - If so, then that's the cause of your problems. You need to UNDO anything it's done recently, and then attempt WU again.
It may help to identify the actual problem to run an MGADiag report.

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

Also - what response do you get if you open a Command Prompt window, and issue the following commands.
SC QC BITS
SC QC WUAUSERV
SC QC MSISERVER

Hello again!

Please follow the advice of NoelDP above. I too would be very interested to see that MGADiag report.

Did you find all of the services? Were all of them present? Also, did any of them fail to start? Any error messages?

Curiously, your copy of Windows claims that it has never been updated. Is this true?

Thanks a lot!

Richard

I suspect that you've been using WiseFixer?

The immediate problem of the failing service it with the Software Protection Servise - whic is commonly deleted by WiseFixer.

First make sure that Notepad is configured NOT to wrap! (click on View - UNcheck 'Wrap') then make sure that there are only 4 lines of code, all beginning with 'sc ', each followed by a single blank line.
If that's not the case, then you may have a corrupt file, so try downloading it again.
Highlight ALL the text in the Code box - select Copy
****************************************************
Code:
sc create sppsvc binPath= %SystemRoot%\System32\sppsvc.exe DisplayName= "Software Protection" depend= Rpcss start= delayed-auto obj= "NT AUTHORITY\NetworkService" password= ""
sc privs sppsvc SeAuditPrivilege/SeChangeNotifyPrivilege/SeCreateGlobalPrivilege/SeImpersonatePrivilege
sc sdset sppsvc D:(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;SY)(A;;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;BA)(A;;CCLCSWRPLOCRRC;;;IU)(A;;CCLCSWRPLOCRRC;;;SU)(A;;LCRP;;;AU)S:(AU;FA;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;WD)
sc sidtype sppsvc UNRESTRICTED
****************************************************

Open an Elevated Command Prompt window - click on the Start button, and in the Search box, type CMD. wait for the system to find the one file, then right-click on that and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt if you get one
Right-click on the C:\ icon (top left of the window) and select Edit... >Paste
You should get Success responses after each line of code
when complete, reboot

test the outcome, by running another MGAdiag report - there are other errors presnet which will also require fixing.

I Just noticed - this installation of Windows is NON_GENUINE - it is using an OEM_SLP Key on a motherboard which cannot possibly support such an installation.
Whatever we do will NOT fix that!
You need to revert back t o your original OS, and then upgrade to Windows 7 using a legitimate Upgrade, or purchase a FULL Retail License for Win 7, and install that.

+1 for the final diagnosis. I have seen very, very similar logs before, with those three missing tampered files, that service missing, and a dodgy SLIC (and I have had them coming to me for update support as well, in the past :))

Heh! - I was so focussed on the error messages that I didn't even look elsewhere untill after I'd posted my initial response,
FWIW, I've seen these file mismatches in what appear to be perfectly genuine systems - and the 424 error is most often caused by using WiseFixer to trash^H^H^H^H^H 'clean' the registry,
