Windows Update 80072EFE Error

In an old desktop machine (which used to have Vista on it), I have installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 64-bit from a purchased original & genuine Microsoft disk.

The OS has been validated with Microsoft and is now activated.

I then tried to run Microsoft Update and get the error 80072EFE.
Clicking on the 'Get help with this error' link takes me to a microsoft page where there is no help for that error code (!)



I've Googled the error code and am tyring a fix that I found.

Any help in the meantime would be greatly appreciated.

Download Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool 1.9.27.0

CoA is also genuine (and only used once before on a pc that has been updated with a new Win 10 Pro installation (with its own license key).

So, both disk and CoA are genuine with holograms.

I have tried the initial procedures that I found on the web, still won't update and I still get the 80072EFE error.

Yea I know!
Is that included in Simplix UpdatePack 7 - MajorGeeks? Appears to be because I never have a problem with fresh or upgrade/repair installs.

Not to worry. The update client KB3138612 is definitely there in the Simplix Update pack7,

Download the latest UpdatePack7R2 update kit version 21.9.15 (Dated 15 Sep 2021) from Набор обновлений UpdatePack7R2 версия 21.9.15 — simplix.info






( When I downloaded it from MajorGeeks and used it , it automatically downloaded the latest version and another 800MB less in my 4G Data pack )

Note: After updating my PC with Simplix, I ran Windows update and it downloaded and installed some 7 or 8 updates
And with that my Windows 7 is uptodateas of 08 Oct 2021.

If it wasn't for including KB3138612, Simplix would fix the error by virtue of installing KB3125574, telling from this image.
