Windows Update Fail Error 80073712

Hi guys,

I am a new comer here. I am Indonesian so I hope you guys could understand my english.

So I am trying to update my windows but it keeps failing and reporting me with error code 80073712

I try to run the sfc /scannow but it doesn't work. It says:

"Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation."

I try to run the Windows Update Readiness Tool Windows6.1 KB976932, it does not work.

The txt files at %windir%\logs\cbs\checkSUR.log reporting this:

What does that mean? How to fix this thing?

Finally, I keep on searching for the fixes but some sites telling me to just do a repair install of my windows 7.

I try to do it, but somehow it doesn't want to continuing the process

"Setup can't continue. Restart computer and restart setup. When prompt try selecting getting latest installation updates"

FYI, i got my Windows 7 free copy from my campus, it called Dreamsparks or something likethat.

I hope any of you expert can solve my problem and my information about my previous effort helps!

The CheckSUR error is a fairly major one! Unless we get lucky, the chances are that you'll have to do a repair install to fix this.


I need to have a look at your COMPONENTS registry hive

Please copy the C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop and then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or OneDrive) and post a link.

Here it is the COMPONENTS file you have request. It is the one with no extension and the biggest size one, right? Thank you

Very unusual!
From what I can see in Regedit, the file is empty! However, the file does contain a lot of data, so there is probably a pointer being misdirected somewhere inside
I'm going to have to ask for assistance on this one, as I don't know enough to be able to even start fixing it - if it's fixable at all.
