Windows Update Fails KB4474419, KB4512506 & KB4512514

Windows Update continously notifies to install updates but always fail. Tried to download and install manually from the repository and still fails. Any suggestions please?

Im attaching CBS log files and screenshot and later on will post SURT logs

Hi George,

One thing to try:

Navigate to: C:\Windows\Software Distribution\Download

Sometimes temporary update files here can become corrupted, stopping updates from installing.

The Download folder can be renamed or deleted which prompts Windows to recreate the folder.

If it is not visible, you may need to make 'Hidden Files and Folders' visible.

Start > Control Panel > Folder Options > View Tab

Under 'Advanced Settings', click radio button next to 'Show hidden files, folders and drives' so that this is selected, then click OK

Give that a shot and see if it resolves your problem.

It is safer to rename the Distribution folder to a .bak. This way, if things go wrong, the new folder can be deleted and the .bak can be re-instated.

Emptied the Downloads folder in SoftwareDistribution and one of the updates finally installed. However the other 2 still fail.

Trying to re-download them from Microsoft Update Catalogue again and try once more

Other suggestions maybe in case it fails again?

new updates like KB4512506 fail to install because either KB4490628, KB4474419 or both of those two updates were not installed.

You can run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /Scanhealth

and then post the checksur.log report. You have maybe a problem with some specific packages.

I have put this together which has worked for a few members. The latest WU’s require that the following are installed FIRST . . .

KB4490628 [SSU]
KB4474419 [SHA-2]
KB4516655 [SSU]

If any of the above WU’s are NOT installed, then download the .msu files below in the same order to the desktop and install them =>

KB4490628 [.msu] => KB4490628 - Servicing stack update for Windows 7 SP1 - [12-Mar-2019].
KB4474419 [.msu] => KB4474419 SHA-2 code signing support update for Windows 7 SP1 - [10-Sep-2019].
KB4516655 [.msu] => KB4516655 [New] - Servicing stack update for Windows 7 SP1 - [10-Sep-2019].

Now run WU's again!

On Windows 7 and earlier, the DISM command isn't available. Instead, you can download and run the System Update Readiness Tool from Microsoft and use it to scan your system for problems and attempt to fix them
AutoSURTx64, my tool, when it completes on desktop will appear CBS Folder. Delete .cab files, zip, upload, please.

On Windows 7 and earlier, the DISM command isn't available.

Snick is correct in his above statement!

You can however, download DISM and use it on Win 7. I have done this in the past. I then wrote a batch script that used the DISM commands to mount the ISO, install all WU's that were in a folder, install drivers, commit the changes, cleanup, unmount the ISO, and create a new ISO.

You can also download DISM++ and use it on Win 7 to completely [well almost] update the OS with WU's.

Ready my post please.
Do you know much about Windows Update? No.
Just because you can force an update to install doesn't mean you corrected the underlying problem!
There usually is an issue or issues prior to your system being noticeably broken.
I am well aware of the KB install order!
I am attempting to ascertain the exact reason this is happening!
I will now extract the 45,000 files from the KB # you provided and see if they contain the missing
Roll_Fix files
You can find them yourself here is KBExtractor.exe
Drag the KB onto KBExtractor.exe and release mouse button
15,000 expanded files or so, temp folder will open.
You can see the exact number of files on the lower-left of screen
I'm starting on the first KB now.
