Solved Windows Update KB2310138 Error Code 80070666
Windows Update flags an optional update: Definition Update for Microsoft Security Essentials - KB2310138 (Definition 1.129.991.0) but when I try to install it, I get Error Code 80070666.
I've done the full
Install the latest Microsoft Security Essentials definition updates thing (downloaded mpam-fe.exe and nis_full.exe then run both as Administrator). WU still says I need KB2310138.
If I try to update in MSE, I get "Security Essentials couldn't complete .... because of an Internet or network connectivity problem." well I'm online now aren't I?
Any thoughts?

OK, fixed it.
Uninstalled Microsoft Security Essentials
Reboot
Re-installed Microsoft Security Essentials
Update, all OK
Odd, because I thought it was a Windows Update problem as well.

That's great news Nigel. I'm happy to hear that you got it sorted.

You might see if using OPTION TWO in the tutorial below may be able to allow Windows Update to work properly afterwards.
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...ate-reset.html
Had the same problem, since a failed important update of MSE client to 4.5.216 (which incidentally no longer appears).
Had already tried a reinstall; OPTION TWO eventually worked for me, after several days of trying MS Fixits, SURT, etc.
Thanks Shawn.
