Hello,

I have a problem on one of my Win7 x64 PCs.

The Windows Update KB3033929 fails with code 80070490 because of missing components of KB2949927 (see attached CheckSUR.zip).

I would need the KB2949927 files to put it into c:\windows\temp\CheckSUR\.....

Thanks!

You have major registry corruption. :(
Code:
Seconds executed: 9701
 Found 126 errors
CBS Watchlist Package Missing Total count: 59
CBS Watchlist Component Missing Total count: 67
These errors all relate to update KB2949927.

I would suggest attempting to uninstall the update from the Installed Updates listing, as a first step

I had a feeling that may be the case.

I'm very wary about dealing with this type of error - especially in the quantities you have - so I'm going to call for assistance.

Don't run away, but it may take a day or two to get someone to come here.

I've talked to my Guru about these errors, and it seems that my first instinct (to delete them en masse) was correct.

I'll work up a registry file that should do the job, and post it later.

Hello Noel,

have you already generated the registry file?

Thanks in advance?

It seems you have a long, long ToDo List :-)

Do you think there will be a solution? Otherwise I would reinstall that PC then...

Yikes!!
I've been learning a lot about this type of error in the meantime :)
Just in case things have changed, can you please run CheckSUR again, and post the new log?

I promise, I WILL get to it this evening!

Thanks!

I'd like to see if this tool copes with this error on its own nowadays - it didn't used to, but...

Please download SFCFix from here... http://www.sysnative.com/niemiro/apps/SFCFix.exe and save it to your desktop (we'll need it later anyhow, I think)

Once saved, double-click on it and accept the warnings. It'll run, and create a file SFCFix.log on the desktop - please upload it to your reply.

Once you've posted the log, please download this registry fix -

I've uploaded a file - svraa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it to your desktop.
Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Save it to the default location
This should create a file svraa.reg

Modify Registry Permissions

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  3. In the left hand panel of regedit, you will see a list of registry keys. Navigate to the following key, right-click on it and select Permissions...:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing
  4. Click Advanced.
  5. Under the Owner tab, click Edit.
  6. Click "Other Users and Groups".
  7. Click Advanced.
  8. Click "Find Now".
  9. Scroll down and double click on Everyone.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Put the check in "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects", click Apply then change to the Permissions tab.
  12. Under type Deny, single click on any entries and click Remove. (N.B.: There may not be any Deny entries, in which case just ignore this step. Just remove any that do exist)
  13. Click Edit (now on the standard file Property window under the Security tab).
  14. Click Add.
  15. Click Advanced.
  16. Click "Find Now".
  17. Scroll down and double click on Everyone.
  18. Click OK.
  19. Single click on Everyone and then tick the "Full Control" box under Allow.
  20. Click OK TWO times.

Now double-click on the svraa.reg file and accept any warning about merging the file with your registry. - you should get a 'Success' message
  21. Navigate to the following key, right-click on it and select Permissions...:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing
  22. Click Advanced.
  23. Click on the Permissions tab (should be the default tab).
  24. Select and click Remove on the ALLOW: Everyone entry you just added.
  25. Click OK.
  26. Go to Owner tab.
  27. Click Edit.
  28. Click "Other Users and Groups".
  29. Paste in "NT Service\TrustedInstaller"
  30. Click OK.
  31. Put the check in "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects".
  32. Click Yes on any message boxes which pop-up.
  33. Click Continue on any Access is Denied messages.
  34. Click OK out of the final message box.
  35. Click OK out of everything.

Then re-run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) and post the log please:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Also run SFCFix again, and post the new SFCSix.log file

Ok, here is the logfile before applying the fix...

But the svraa.zip file seems to be corrupted as it contains only 22 bytes !

Could you please upload it again? Thanks!

You appear to have some major registry corruption present!

I need to have a look at your COMPONENTS registry hive

Please copy the C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop and then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or OneDrive) and post a link.
