Hey guys

I'm having an issue with running the update for the 1-2 months - KB3046482. It tries installing but I get errors such as 80246007. Tried logging on the machine as a different user with no luck.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/1lpnt8e487z6rp8/CBS.zip?dl=0

I've tried clearing out the windows updates on the machine (C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download) and redownloading the update without success.

It means everytime I try to shut down it tries to install this update and fail repeatedly.

Is there anyway I can mark it so it never installs this update? I've tried marking it not to install on the WSUS but with no luck.

Better yet does anyone know the fix? I'm pulling my hair out.

Thanks in advance

Since this is a Windows 8 problem, you should repost in the more appropriate eightforums.com forums for assistance - metods of repair for win8 are different to those for win7.

I'll post a fix protocol later for those.
I didn't find any recent signs of an SFC scan - but that can wait, as it may change after we fix these errors anyhow.

I've uploaded a file - cc2aa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder cc2aa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be two folders inside it (Manifests, and Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

And the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

If it doesn't go OK, post the KB number and error message

Sadly don't know if it is effected - but now the computer cant get into windows update (no error message) and many of internet explorer's apps doesn't work anymore. It seems to be linked with C++ apps.

Tried reinstalling C++ however nothing happens when I click the executable file.

May just have to rebuild this machine. System restore also spits out an error in that I can restore from any points in time.

There's nothing we've done which should affect C++.
Perhaps you have malware, or a failing disk.

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked, and the CHKDSK will run at the next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then post the Application.evtx log...

Open Event Viewer
click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.
Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...
Save the file as Appevt.evtx
Compress it and upload the compressed file to your reply.

It reports a C++ error message, when I first log in. However closer look the pages that don't work are .Net framework ones - pages with pie charts of live data. It just sits there. I tried reinstalling .Net however get an error. I then tried any other installer and I get the same error. So it looks to have caused an issue on setup installers.

I tried reverting to defaults in IE however that didn't fix it.

Let's just put it to Malware - sadly I don't have time to run anymore scans/troubleshoot further. Think it's easier to just rebuild the laptop but appreciate the time and effort spent from your side.

Thanks nevertheless

I suspect that you're probably correct about rebuilding being the quicker solution :(

Good luck with it!
