Hello!
I've got a Windows 7 fresh installation, and the first thing I did was to try to update my windows. The problem is that windows keeps checking for updates without coming up with any results (and I did wait a lot).

I had to change my HDD, because the previous one failed altogether. I wouldn't see why there could be any compatibility issues. I have a HP Pavilion dv5-1141en and the hdd inside is a 500GB Seagate. The previous one was a 320GB WD.

I tried resetting my windows update components (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058), but it didn't work.

I really have no idea where to go from here. It's weird, given that the installation is new.

Appreciate any suggestions,

Thank you!

Hi lethargos and welcome to sevenforums. Updates, especially on fresh install are taking forever. I just performed 2repair installs (last few days) and windows update took hours (7 hours on one machine) to start downloading updates.
Set power options to sleep never
run windows update.
Be patient it will complete.
Additionally, one machine I updated has 4gb ram and out of memory error occurred with the 200+ updates available since service pack 1 was issued. I clicked ok on the popup(s).
Shutdown machine, restarted and most of the updates were installed.
Hope this helps.

Yes, you were right. I did wait 4 hours, I just forgot to update the thread :) Indeed, that was the problem, but I think this has only been happening recently, someone suggested since Windows 10 was released. Quite nasty, but it's good to know :)

Thanks!
