Windows update log in problem

Hi
This morning I applied a slew of windows updates. After restarting (Home premium) I find that I can't log on.
I have 2 accounts: Administrator & User. When I click on either of these icons to get to the Logon screen it just returns me to the same place: the two icons.
I have attempted via F8 to 'start windows at it's last working...' but still the same.
I have attempted a restore but that fails.
I tried to go to Safe Mode but after entering the Admin password it returns me to the 'enter password' screen.
I tried the repair computer option which failed and gave me the following error report:

Update.
Finally managed to log in after attempting several different restore points. Ran full virus scan - no problems. Removed User account leaving just Admin account - ran windows update again (numerous security fixes) and restarted.
Now just before log on screen appears screen flashes on & off and never gets to log on screen. Same behavior when trying to log on in safe mode. Seems one or more of the updates has problems.
Attempting to restore working system again...

you are not the only one with the flashing black screen, even in safe mode. (though i didn't get your original problem) i tried to use startuprepair (3 times) off win 7 install disk .. didn't work as it didn't think anything is wrong tried system restore only to get errors (kaspersky related i think) did a sfc /scannow via command prompt off the win7 install disk think that might have done the trick as apparently a system restore kicked in and i can log in (no idea why or how!) only thing i can say it's not kb3102810 or kb3107998 as i hid them. i'm going to reboot and then reconnect my data drives... as well as burning a mint live disk.. think some folders on the data drives might have got corrupted when i tried to use an old kaspersky rescue disk to browse the web for help! (no idea why) i was about to do a clean re-install just before it worked! (this thing doesn't do new paragraphs?? or is it noscript)

OK, so after laboriously running the updates one by one I tracked down the culprit: KB3097877
Now why it does what it does is for later investigation but what happens (on my system) is that upon restarting after applying KB3097877 it almost gets to the log in prompt then the screen flashes and it tries again. This happens in a continuous loop so that you cannot log in.
The same thing happens when trying to log into 'safe mode'.
The only way out I've found is to F8 upon restart, select 'Repair Computer' and then perform a restore. After that totally hide that particular update.
Thanks Microsoft, that's a few hours of my life I just wasted.
If anyone has any idea what the problem is I'd sure like to know.

thanks for narrowing that. i might update the rest tomorrow (hid this already). apparently it causes various other issues as well.

Yes I can attest that it does cause other issues as well. Cannot believe MS has not pulled this KB it is causing havoc
