Hi, after a long absence from this forum, I have hit a problem with Windows update on a clean install of W7 Pro with SP1.
I have spent quite a while scouring the net with re loads etc until I found KB3102810 which seems to fit the symptoms.
After installing this I have been able to install 200+ updates & all seems good - I did have to abort at no 119 when it stuck, but a reboot and off it went again.
Obviously no guarantee, but it did the job for me.
PC is a Philips Freevent with 2GB & a Centrino Duo - not exactly cutting edge :o !
But it is working now!

Not that this is a solution but when I do a clean install and need to get hundreds of updates, I normally kick it off prior to bed time and let it run overnight. When I get up in the morning they are there. At least you know the services needed are running. That KB3102810 did help me in the past.

Lack of ANY updates

My problem in this case was simple, no matter how long the Update search ran, it was always searching and never finding anything!
After the fix mentioned, it started finding updates after an hour or so.
I had been concentrating on the lack of updates, when I looked for the high CPU consumption & lack of updates, up popped this little beauty.
I posted this just in case it matched anybody elses problem - it wasn't very prominent in my searches.
- I'm still getting further fixes - it tried to upgrade me to Win 10 - a step too far.

Good to hear. That Windows 10 has been causing some chaos. Many friends have come running to me. Sorry that I misunderstood.
