Windows updates built to slow down Chrome?

I have always been a faithful Google Chrome user, but just recently I had a Windows update for my PC (Running Win8) and well, my download and upload speeds have been down for Chrome. I have been testing on Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test a lot recently and ever since I had had my last Windows update, I have dropped from an average of 15-20mb/s to 6-10mb/s. I have cleaned out my cache and deleted my history (which usually helps me load Youtube vids when they start buffering a lot) and that has done nothing. I don't have a single add-on to Chrome either. Just recently I installed IE10 and I was surprised to find that not only my ping was cut in 1/4, but my speeds were ranging from 18-22mb/s again.

Also, I checked the date when I downloaded the update for Windows and checked my tests on Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test and the numbers matched perfectly. I started getting a waay lower average after that date, and I have never had a problem with this before then. I asked a friend to test it on his computer and he said the same thing where Chrome was running much slower.

Any thoughts?

I've never experienced that, but I also never downloaded IE10.......

Perhaps there is another explanation?

Hi, welcome to Seven Forums! You probably installed a major update that was meant to slow it down OR it could be you installed an optional software which you should not ever choose.

It was fine before the update. I got the update and it did not work correctly. I uninstalled the update and it works fine again. I think things are pointing towards the "designed to slow it down" reason.

Is this a Windows 8 sort of thing? Because chrome is still sort of in beta for Windows 8 and chrome probably slows down because of that. There is still a lot of issues with Windows 8 and I think you should install that update and either use the browser internet explorer 10 or get firefox or some other compatible browser.

That is very possible. I have tried Firefox's x64 equivalent Waterfox and that had the same problems that Chrome had, and they both work just fine now. Although it could be a possible bug, it does not explain the extreme speed drops very well.
