Windows usual 'snap to grid' feature is gone???

Hi,

I'm hoping that somebody can tell me where snap-to-grid is gone to. I see it just fine on the desktop but if you delve into a directory there seems to be no way to turn off auto arrange/snap to grid. Therefore this is turning out to be a bit of a pain. If you want to copy a bunch of files out of a crowded folder you can't move the ones you don't want out of the way while you select those that you do want.

Does anybody know a way around this annoyance?

I believe Microsoft thought it was best to arrange your icons for you. The best way to copy multiple files that aren't next to each other at the same time is to hold down Ctrl and click on the files you want

We all have the same problem, and we have to figure out how to solve the problem. This is what I did, but I do not have many files. I set to arrange in alphabetical order.

Then I name them a b c but before the name I put 1, 2 or 3 etc, depending upon the order that I want.

Thanks motc7. But since posting, I thought that perhaps that feature is one of many that aren't in Starter. That version seems to be way too basic, to out it more politely than some posts I've seen. I'm using Professional, and from the specs I'd say that Home Premium would be the minimum for most users.

Go to this thread and read pages 2-3 The fix I posted there adds 'Auto Arrange' and you can then untick it and drag and drop photos etc as long as they're set as icons.
