Windows Will Not Load With 8GB RAM Added

Thanks guys, i have tried the RAM in slots 1 and 3 (channel 0) and 2 and 4 (channel 1) and still nothing.

Re voltage, timing etc thats a bit above my PC experience so ill be taking the RAM and PC to a local expert tomorrow i think.

Thanks again

Simon

That is most likely your best bet if you don't feel confident messing around in the bios.

Normally if Ram is not playing ball, the first place to look (for me anyway) would be the bios settings for the Ram, I bet it just needs the correct settings put in.

Best of luck with it anyway, and be sure to pop back and let us know how it goes.

Final post from me on this one.

Really annoying.....

I could not get the update of the BIOS to work and it was bit over my head so I took it to a local PC shop to sort the problem.

They told me it needed a reload of windows, so after 3 hours labour and a £115 bill my windows was reloaded and I was told that all should be okay.

Got home started reloading games and blue screen of death again !

I have now taken the Corsair RAM out and put the old RAM back in and everything runs okay.

My question is, the retailer I purchased this ram from was Maplin and they will not refund or exchange hardware.

So now I figure my only option is to see if Corsair will exchange for me for the 1333mhz version of the same RAM.

Does anybody know if this is possible and is there a UK address to deal with ?

Regards

Simon

You took it to a local PC shop to "Sort" out the problem, they didn't "Sort" the problem out and charged you a lot of money for not sorting the problem out.

I would be heading straight back there for them to either fix it or get a refund!!

:ditto: Totally agree. Any legitimate repair facility should work with the customer until the problem is solved. Assuming they do take the computer back in for follow-up repair, when they tell you it's fixed, bring your games with you to the shop. Reload them and make sure the computer is really fixed.

Any Legitimate Company would know better than to suggest reloading Windows in this case. You needed them to either reset ram timing in the bios or if that was not possible then help you get the correct Ram. I do believe your issue is with the ram frequencies and if they are not adjustable from an f2 trip into the bios then you need the correct ram. I would not let that "company" touch my machine again unless you feel like they made an oops. (not likey) Why the heck is it that so many shops are doing the "reload Windows" dance? Easy money? sure it is. Right? not in a hells chance. I hope their Karma bites ringht in the cahonies.

Computer shop not interested as they say they told me they were reloading windows, and showed me it working on another Hard Drive. They are now suggesting a new Mother Board and Hard Drive !!! Wow big money !! I suggested a BIOS update but they said it was not that and they said they have never done a bios update through dos. I'm a bit confused ! I have now just put the old RAM back in and its running fine.

They are not much of a computer repair facility if they are not familiar with a dos boot disk and bios updates. I would suggest "Do Not Go Back" as they sound incompetent to do the basic tasks associated with repair.

" I have now just put the old RAM back in and its running fine. "

I would keep an eye on it as it is likely the ram you have is not designed to work with that board. sometimes resetting the bios to factory defaults will help, which is what either you did inadvertently or they did on purpose.

Good luck with it and keep us in the loop.

I am back again determined to get this RAM issue resolved.

I have now obtained an identical set of 2GB RAM (2 X 2GB) that match the RAM I had in my PC when I purchased it (I know I cannot guarantee exact match if I do not buy as a pair).

So now I have 4 banks of 2GB RAM all 1333mhz and all same manufacturer and part number.

Tested with 6GB all okay and PC runs fine.

Tested with 8GB and blue screen of death again when I load a gam, although pc does recognise the full 8GB now.

This is identical to the issue I had with the Corsair RAM, crashing anything over 6GB.

So im going to get the BIOS updated despite my local PC shop declaring WW3 will break out if I do this.

I have contacted my motherboard manufacturer Foxconn and I have the update I need.

I have the ME jumpers on 2-3 pin and I ran the BIN file as follows

fpt - f ****** (I inserted my bios number to update).rom -y

I got an error in red saying "protected range register"

Anybody have any ideas what this means.

Im getting closer to flashing this BIOS.

Regards

Simon

All,

Update, I got the BIOS updated, now to see if the RAM works.

My CPU fan is now flat out after the BIOS update. Any reason why it would run flat out now ?

Regards

Simon

I believe the BIOS may have some different fan settings that you can choose from, Simon. They vary from BIOS to BIOS but may include a manual setting (low, medium or high speed all the time) and an automatic setting where the fan will adjust itself based on temperature. By updating the BIOS the default fan speed setting may have changed.
