When i got my shitty hp compaq it had windows xp on it so i put a copy of windows 7 ultimate 32bit on it. A couple of months after putting it on i tryed to remove/ format my old os partition but it wont allow me to format it. So i tryed to remove it form the boot menu when i start my pc and that worked but it still didnt want to format. I was wondering if someone might know what i can do to remove it.

In your case it appears two partitions are at work and Windows can't deal with it while booted up, won't allow itself to be killed. In such a case I use a partitioning software, favored is GPARTED. It's a downloaded .iso file used to create the bootable disc. The OS used is a version of Linux. Downside is the required Windows boot files may be on the wrong partition, happens when dual-booting two or more OSes and may have to delete both partitions and start over.

You probably need to follow instructions here to fix the mbr and make sure the C: partition is your boot partition, then you should be able to delete the XP partition and do whatever you want with it.

If you want to keep Win7 but delete the original XP partition, then please post back a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image from Win7 and we'll give you the exact steps.

Generally if XP is marked System Active it holds the boot files for both OS's which must first be moved to Win7 following Bootmgr - Move to C:\ with EasyBCD - Windows 7 Forums.

Then you can recover the space from XP into Win7 following Resize Partition with Partition Wizard - Video Help. or create a new partition there in Disk Mgmt. It's actually better to have your Win7 partition on the left side so let us see the picture so we can advise you exact steps to get it done.http://partitionwizard.com/video-help/moveresizepartition/moveresizepartition.html

Yes, the reason we needed to see the screenshot.

What I would do here is download, burn to CD with Windows Image Burner, boot free Partition Wizard and follow How to set partition as Primary with Partition Wizard so that EasyBCD can move the Bootmgr to C. You could also use the installed version of PW for that operation only.

After C is labeled System Active boot the PW CD to delete the XP partition, then absorb its space along with the 11 gb Unallocated space into C which needs to be enlarged. Do both following How to extend partition easily with Partition Wizard - video help. It is safest to use the PW CD when resizing the C partition.

Let us know if this is what you want to do, or how it goes.

Thanks for the reply and il try this soon as I can. Il reply back when it's fixxed or if there's a error again.

What do you mean you removed the Logical partition? I gave you very specific steps about what to do, nothing at all was said about deleting that partition.

How do you know you deleted the partition? Let's see a screenshot now from XP: Screenshot with Paint

Why would you ask if you need to replace the hard drive because you deleted a partition? Are you joking? Obviously if you confirm that you deleted Win7 then you'll need to do a Clean Reinstall Windows 7

Dont worry just forget about it i reinstalled the os.
