Windows XP Mode little issues

Hi guys,

Just installed and configured Windows XP Mode. Now I have some questions but there is not much "official" information regarding it since it's all pretty new...

1. Is there a way to use 32 bit color in a VM? I only have 16 bit and 24 bit options.
2. I think that is related to the previous question: when working with VM, it seems to have some kind of delay and mouse cursor issues. Both in virtual application and virtual machine modes. Any idea why? Any way to improve this?
3. Any virtual application window won't have any theme. Is this correct? (I presume it is, but it doesn't hurt to ask)

PS: Oh, I do miss so much Hyper-V... :huh:

1. If hardware integration in XP Mode is enabled, you can not.
2. Try to increase amount of memory VirtualXP uses. I have mine 1GB, it seems to help.
3. If hardware integration is enabled, you can not use themes. Disable integration if you want themes.

OK, you say so. There must then be a bug in my XP Mode because I can do that as the included image shows.

Yes sorry.....the one time I have tried it I was actually runny the VM.....duh. Yes you CAN change settings and screen resolution while it is OFF. If you turn off all integration features you will get a very good resolution. Its all preference, I like connecting items as I need them. I also want any virus I get to stay on the VM as I usually will not install a anti virus on the VM.

Next time I will check my facts kari!!

Install the guest addons, that should able you to customise your screen size and use higher colour bitrate.

I realize that this is a bit old thread, but how to install the guest addons so that I can get better resolution than 16 bit color in XP Mode (in case anyone is reading this thread)?

One thing, My comp keeps asking me to reset the bios setting to allow virtulisation, I have been through every setting I can find in the bios and still can't find it. Am I missing something simple.
I am running an Asus M4A785TD-V EVO board with an AMD Phemon x4 955 it has integrated grapgics ATI Radeon HD 4200.
Please help a very frustrated Samurai.

I am using an AMD Phemon II x4 955 with an ASUS M4N82 Deluxe. My motherboard has Virtualization enabled by default. It is found in the BIOS in the Advanced menu under CPU Configuration. The setting is called Secure Virtual Machine Mode [Enabled].

I just checked the manual for your motherboard. It has the same setting as my motherboard with the difference that Secure Virtual Machine Mode [Disabled]. You need to enable it. You then should have no problem.

If I run AMD CPUInfo it shows "Secure Virtual Mode" as being Supported but not Enabled. If I start XP Mode and rerun AMD CPUInfo it then shows "Secure Virtual Mode" as being Enabled.

Note that many, even quite recent, motherboards ship with a BIOS that does not include the hardware virtualization option. Check to see if you have the latest available bios from your mobo manufacturer.

My board is only a few months old but still needed the very latest BIOS to enable HV.

Additionally, when one goes to download Microsoft VM and the XP Mode, there is a tool available for free download, that checks the BIOS configuration and indicates whether hardware virtualization is enabled in the BIOS or not. Quite nifty.
