Windows XP Mode refuses to setup

I finally found out how to run virtual XP. If you have a 'Bulldog' type AMD CPU then download and install 'Microsoft Hot Fix KB2519949'. This will enable you to start XP the first time without errors and to run it. The hot fix can be found under "Microsoft support".

error msg with windows xp mode when run

Hello, appreciate if anyone can advice.
I hv downloaded both windows xp mode and windows virtual pc. When i try to install windows xp mode i get this msg

C:\users\amdx64\downloads\windowsxpmode_en-us.exe is not a valid win32 application

What can i do to successfully install it?

Thank u for the prompt reply. I have disabled the UAC n restart the machine n tried to reinstall but it was unsuccessful with the same error msg.

Any other suggestions will b most welcomed.

Did you also try running the install by right click run as admin?

And also try the N_eng.exe version they offer (altho i understand that one doesn't include media player)

The error message you get normally means the downloaded file is somehow corrupted.

I recommend to follow instructions in this tutorial step by step, even if you already know how to do it; quite often we people tend to accidentally overlook a minor detail in otherwise familiar procedures in which case following clear instructions often help: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/8247-windows-xp-mode-install-setup.html

Remember also that both Windows XP Mode and the Windows Virtual PC it needs to run require a valid and genuine Windows, which will be checked or the installation fails.

Thanks for all the suggestions. My attempts to download both versions of the file proved fruitless using my mobile and HSPA Alcatel. I'm in a remote area and Infocom infrastructure takes time to come here. Getting the file downloaded through a friend and will make the 10hr journey to collect it and then go through all the steps as advised.

That does not sound nice, all that only to get a file or two downloaded, but as your error clearly indicates a corrupted file, I can see no other options than re-downloading.
