How do you start Windows Virtual PC w/o XP Mode

I would like to start Windows Virtual PC w/o XP Mode in order to install a different OS (Vista). But I can't seem to find the program!

If I go to Start/All Programs/Windows Virtual PC/Windows Virtual PC it just opens up the folder where the file Windows XP Mode.vmcx is stored (//Users/%User%/Virtual Machines).

What's going on?

I did what you are trying to do several months ago and don't recall all the details.

I think there is a switch in the bios to enable VT.

Your processor certainly supports it.

I am already running Windows XP Mode without a problem. I can't figure out how to start Windows Virtual PC in order to install another virtual operating system.

I downloaded and installed that. Without it, you can't run XP Mode. My problem is that the program icon which is supposed to open Windows Virtual PC instead opens a folder! (!!!)

Earlier in this thread (post 3, 45 minutes ago) you said you were running XP. I am just trying to determine if the odd folder behaviour occurs in both XP and Windows 7.

When you navigate to the folder: "C:\Users\YourName\Virtual Machines" and look on the menu bar, you'll find an option "Create Virtual Machine" as shown in the attached image file. That is where you'll go to create a Vista VM or any other such as Linux, etc.

2) Now Virtual PC runs just like any other application - Create new Virtual machine etc -- just like vmware or vbox.

Whilst you've got Integration enabled you are locked in to XP mode and can't run any other virtual machines.

(If you need multiple virtual machiness consider vmware server or vbox - both faster and FREE).

I found a new lease of VM life with Virtual PC 2007. Using w7 to create a .VHD, i then use that on VPC 2007 (hosted on Xp) and i'm very impressed and amazed of how easy it was to setuo. boots up ALOT faster than XPM.

Turning off the Integration Features didn't do it. Why not Jim Pickering's simple suggestion?
