Antivirus in XP mode

Hi,

I am kind of afraid to ask this because it maybe a very stupid question. If I have Virtual XPM, I imagine I need to use it with an antivirus with Xp and another for W7. Or, could I use the W7 when I use XPM. Is it possible to install Norton internet security in XPM and scan W7?

You have to install an AV on both system.
The XP under XP Mode is a separate environment. Each system need it's own AV.

Allan, okay, that's not telling me much. No problem though, let's try a different approach. Which model of laptop do you have?

Win7User512, just saying he's wrong about all 7xxx Core2's supporting virtualization. Some of them do support it just fine.

From what I see your laptop has a Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 processor. I looked on Intel website it they are showing the Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 processor to support:
Intel® Virtualization Technology (Intel® VT)
Intel® 64 Execute Disable Bit

Looks like you qualify.

I am going to load this up tonight and see how it goes. I am interested to see if I can load Activesync 4.5. It would then allow me (hopefully) to flash my Winmobile with new ROM's from this PC and I can look at converting the laptop to Windows 7 as well then.

Yes the processor is capable, unfortunately the OEM doesn't seem to have included a way to enable it

well... XP mode seems to work ok so far for me. I havent had a alot of time to really test it out yet... I have a Athlon 64x2 5600+ processor and luckily virtualization was enabled by default in the BIOS.

on the MS support page for virtualpc/XP mode they list utilities for Intel and AMD processors to determine if yours will work

Well I installed it on my Asus laptop and it works without problem.

I just had to try it lol.

I installed AIM and ran that side by side with 7 and it worked well. I don't have any programs that don't work with 7 so I don't think I will be using this much, but just wanted to test it out!!

this works amazingly well. I really need this, because I have many apps that don't work well with se7en but work on XP.

I've one question:
some erratic display and sound drivers are installed by defaul on XP. for example my video card is a Geforce 8800GT and XP installs some crappy S3 VGA drivers. my soundcard is a Auzentech x-Fi Prelude and XP installs a Soundblaster 32 or sumthing... is this good or bad?

XP Mode sounds dangerous

For those that want to TEST XP MODE. recommend you use google and find all the posts from many different sources. WHY NOT TO USE XP MODE IN WINDOWS 7.

vm software emulates hardware so that is why its different...
huh now it has sb 32?
vpc 2007 has sb 16....
s3 has always been there in vpc 2007...

well if its usb then its possible...
