Windows7 64bit: Computer freezes / no Bluescreen

Hello from germany,

very often (about one or two times a day) my computer suddenly freezes without a bluescreen. All I can do is to use the powerbutton. Keyboard and mouse don't work when freezing.

This happens usually in the first five till ten minutes after booting. If it doesn't freeze it works without problems.
It happens no matter what I am currently working with. No matter if I'm using the internet explorer, or thunderbird, or watching youtube, or just clicking on my destop ...

I've already tried to update all the drivers and did a Windows-Update.

I've checked every RAM. Each after each. With everyone I had the problem.

My computer:
Windows7 Home Premium 64 Bit
AMD Athlon II X4 630 Processor
6 GB RAM
GeForce GT 220

I really hope you can help me. I want to solve this problem!

Thanks alot!

Greetings from Germany,

Tina

Hi Tina!
Here are a few things I would try first.

Do you have a System Restore point before the problem started?

Look in Event Viewer for any errors at the time of the freeze, for a clue about whats causing the freeze.

Boot into safe mode with networking. Start tapping the F8 key while the computer is starting up. Run it for long enough to see if it will freeze.

If things are OK in safe mode, in the search box enter msconfig.exe and click on it. In the Startup tab disable everything except your antivirus app. Next in the Services tab click on Hide Microsoft Services and disable the remaining services. Restart and wait for the PC to freeze. If it is still running OK, go back to msconfig.exe and enable about half the the entries you disabled earlier. Reboot and see what happens. The idea is to find the startup program or service that is causing the problem by adding back the entries until you can find the offender.

Finding the problem will take some and a lot of reboots.

I'll try that. I think it will take a really long time, cause the PC doesn't freeze everytime. Maybe only about two times a day...

@karlsnooks:
The files are attached.

Thank you!

I'm sorry. I forgot to answer your first questions...

Do you have a System Restore point before the problem started?
I don't know excactly when the problem first startet. :(

Look in Event Viewer for any errors at the time of the freeze, for a clue about whats causing the freeze.
I've been clicking through the Event Viewer for the last 20 minutes. Hard for me to see if there is something that could cause the freeze.
There are so many things I don't understand ...

By the way:
I am running the safe mode since about 2 hours without any problem.

You want me to restart it in safe mode or in "normal" mode? Where shall I try if it's freeze?

I tried to fix it with lodctr /r (see Event ID 3002)
Don't know if it helps.

System is still running with everything disabled in the startup of msconfig.

Still waiting if a freeze comes...

Errors in the event viewer are not necessarily something to worry about. What you are looking for in event viewer is an error at or shortly before the freeze. It can be hard to decipher what the errors really mean. I don't speak/read German, it looks like Karl does, he should be back before long.

The idea of disabling half the startup and services is to speed up finding which group has the problem. After you find the half with the problem, you will start disabling each entry one at a time. Reboot after each change.

It would not hurt to run sfc to see if there are any corrupt system files. Type CMD in the search box and right click on cmd.exe and select Run As Administrator. At the command prompt enter sfc /scannow (notice the space after the c). It will look for and try to repair corrupt system files.

I don't understand the error-description in german. So I'm not able to translate it to english. Sorry.

Since I've disabled all the entries I had no freeze. But I'll still wait and see before I activate more.

Did that. No error.

Hi Tina,

First, the eventlog entry is unusual and I suspect that another program corrupted the registry.

========================================
WIN |
type MSCONFIG | ENTER | STARTUP tab |
Uncheck ALL except for:
PHP:
avgnt Avira Operations GmbH & Co. KG "C:\Program Files (x86)\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\avgnt.exe" /min

REBOOT!

You have just told Win 7 to not run unchecked programs at start up time.

=================================
=================================
CCLEANER | TOOLS
icon | STARTUP tab | SCHEDULED TASKS tab |
Use DISABLE button to disable ALL

Close CCleaner.

REBOOT!

You have not disabled any programs. You have disabled the scheduled running.
Later, after your system is running smoothly, you may reenable desired programs.
You have not disabled the programs. They will be run when needed.

WIN = key with the Microsoft logo on top

Now here comes some anguish:

UNINSTALL

REBOOT

After all is said and done, are your system is working, you can try reinstalling a program, one at a time, to see if your problem reappears.

Your Firefox is out-of-date.

I recommend investigating google mail and google rss reader and to remove Thunderbird.

Hi,

thanks for your help!

I did the three steps yesterday.

Now my STARTUP is completely clean and I've uninstalled the programms you've said.

This morning I had a freeze. I startet the PC and left the room. When I came back about 10 minutes later it was frozen. I didn't do anything. No mouse-moving, nothing.

The events from this morning (13 errors) are attached. I hope you can open them ...

Thank you!

Tina,
I would like for you to fill out your system specs.
Please follow this write-up and use SPECCY to gather info.

Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec
(left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

In the System Manufacturer Block, enter:
Ø Manufacturer and Model OR Custom build.
Ø ADD the word laptop, desktop, netbook or tablet.
For example:
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.

With Speccy, you can select with your mouse/touchpad info from the display
and paste that info into your specs.

SIW is a marvelous program, but the free version does not offer
this capability.

Thanks.

That info satisfies nearly all needs.

There are a couple of other hardware points I'd like to investigate.

What that means is:

SPECCY | FILE | SAVE SNAPSHOT | SAVE button

That will generate a file with the extension of .SPECCY.

Would you please zip up that file and attach to your next post?

The "snapshot" format does not include your product key which is excellent since that product key is what you need to install Windows.

I could ask many questions and have you run several scripts to gather all of the info but this is simpler.
