Guys i have to do a wipe/reinstall on my main machine. Is there any reason not to go with Windows7 RC? I currently am running Vista x64. I'm contemplating whether i should put Vista x64 back on or Windows7RC. I'm running windows 7 on my labtop and love it. I know as soon as Windows 7 goes RTM i will download it and install it (i have a msdn subscription). I know there is no upgrade path from Windows7RC to Windows 7 Release but, from what ive heard, even if you have vista you should do a total wipe anyways because all the crap that could possibly be left on you computer. The only thing i hate is i have SOOOO much software to install its going to take me quite awhile to get everything on my system. Heck just my programming tools take a long time and thats not considering anything else like firefox and all the add-ins and all the setup of options i have to do. Its just a royal pain.

The only bad thing ive seen in the past is when their are security updates /ect...they sometimes don't want to seem to push these out to the beta/rc's. For example when they released IE8...they didn't push it out to Windows 7 Beta.

What do you guys think?

thanks,
Ncage

Hi Ncage and welcome,

Well, you could dual boot the 7 RC and Vista. That way you could use both if you wanted. I would make backups of all your files/programs.

Or just go with the RC, many have been using as their main OS, including me, as I have been since 7000 without problems.

And the updates are issued in the RC, as they were in the Beta 7000, just not in the leaked interim builds. (well, just Win defender and maybe a couple driver updates were issued in leaked builds.)

Thanks for the reply. Ya i definitely will do a backup...i have WHS.....but with your comment about how updates are pushed out to Windows7...how can you explain that the release of IE8 wasn't pushed out to windows 7 7000?

You might want to dual boot.

I install RC7100 on my main comp, upgraded from Vista 64 Ultimate.

After I got Win 7 installed. Didnt have sound, and cant play any games. If you game a lot, i suggest you run dual boot.
-Only managed to fix my sound only but trying to fix my games.
-Some bugs as well, start menu, all programs dissappeared grr.

Should of dual booted but o well. Either than that Its running fine.

Definitely dual boot, and keep the 7 install on a different drive/partition (it'll confuse itself with Vista, and vice versa, even on different drives).

Ive not used Vista since beta was released. I love Windows 7 and wouldnt go back. You could run the Windows 7 compatibility advisor (check microsofts page for that) to make sure your hardware and software is compatible.

My reason not to go with Windows7 RC is:

I am installing Windows 7 7121 x64 right now. I love W7, I will try every version if I can get~~:D

A. Of course there are reasons not to install Windows7. The main one is that Windows7 doesn't exist yet. We've had a beta which was pretty well done for a beta and now we have the RC1. Neither is a finished product. Some cautious people won't even install Windows7 on a critical computer until SP1 is out.

My personal opinion is that Windows7 RC1 is quite stable and my risks of it dying are like the risk of my hard drive dying. I back up my data and take my chances.

I never dual boot. I also don't wear a belt and suspenders.
