Winlogon - Windows Log Application Event Issues

Hi,

I'm getting two events reported as Information in the Application Log pertaining to SessionEnv and TrustedInstaller every time I start my system.

The first is Event 6003, Winlogon. The General Description indicates: The winlogon notification subscriber <TrustedInstaller> was unavailable to handle a critical notification event.

The second is Event 6000, Winlogon. The General Description indicates: The winlogon notification subscriber <SessionEnv> was unable to handle a notification event.

The Event Log Online Help indicates this error might be caused by one of the following conditions for the two Events:

• System resources are inadequate or unavailable.
• The Windows registry is corrupted.
• A service failed to start.

I don't see any Information, Warning or Error issues in the Windows System Log, so I think that rules out a service failed to start. I don't get any other Windows registry issues and I've run SFC /Scannow without any issues. From the best that I can tell, my System resources are adequate and available.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to check to resolve these issues?

If the Windows registry is slightly or moderately corrupted, you may be able to restart the computer in Safe mode and use System Restore to restore the registry of the computer to the last known good configuration.

I don't know if this will help because sfc /scannow passed.
I don't believe your System resources are the problem.

This could also be of some help.

My system starts ok, but I just get these events and the one about critical event notification is causing some concern.

I don't think system restore is a good option for me at this time, because I've just removed some old CD/DVD utility applications for burning discs and making LightScribe labels, and reloaded my Intel audio, Dolby and Bluetooth drivers and software to resolve other Events. I'm down to just three Events of concern and the one I didn't mention is the Google Update Service. I will handle that one separately. If I use system restore, I might reinstall something that I intentionally removed. These issues existed before I started removing software and drivers to resolve Events of concern.

I think I'll try that F8 Windows Repair option though.

I did the F8 routine and didn't see a Window Repair option. I also booted to my Win 7 CD and didn't see any repair option other than system restore. So, there doesn't appear to be a Windows Repair method available.

I'm sure that I don't have a restore point that precedes the issues in the Windows Application Log.

I'll do some searches for TrustedInstaller and SessionEnv issues and see what comes up.

SessionEnv is a Windows service that appears in Windows Task Manager under the services tab and its description is Remote Desktop Configuration.

That doesn't appear to be a very critical function to me. I don't use Remote Desktop. I'll check to see if I can adjust the Remote Desktop Configuration back to default settings to resolve the Winlogon issue.

If anyone knows anything about the proper configuration for Remote Desktop, please post a suggestion.

I resolved the Event 6003, Winlogon: General Description: The winlogon notification subscriber <TrustedInstaller> was unavailable to handle a critical notification event.

I was able to clear this event by manually deleting the remainder of the CD/DVD utility programs and players that didn't fully delete with their installer program by going into the program files directory and deleting their directories. Also, by going into the registry and deleting the related keys.

The SessionEnv issue is a tough one. I posted on the MS TechNet for assistance on that one.

Same thing is happening in Win 10 with SessionEnv. tjg79 - did you find a solution?

It's been so long ago, I can't recall. I know that I've done at least two repair installs since I originally posted this thread, so any lingering issues would have been cleaned up with those actions.
