Winodws Media Center won't re-enable

WMC kept crashing on start up. After looking online for help I disabled it. Now I can't re-enable it. It starts going through the process but then says "An error has occurred".

I've spent hours trying to get it to work but having no luck.

Is there anyway to do it without a clean install of Windows?

Any advice appreciated greatly.

Still no luck. The Scandisk option crashed my PC for a while and wouldn't restart but after a while did work again... :-/
Apparently there are errors and I've tried to replace the corrupted files but still no joy.
Is it possible to reinstall WMC from the CD without doing a clean Windows reinstallation and loosing all my files/programs etc?

Ok most importantly have you got all your data backed up? because this is not looking good as the SFC and / or chkdsk should be able to repair Windows normally - that is unless the system has been very corrupted.

Have you run any malware scans? - if not try these to start with.
