I have a Toshiba
Satellite X205-S9349

I have duel boot Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows XP Professional.

The Windows 7 can communiate just fine with the network.

Granit that this is a new installation of Windows XP Pro.

I have enabled:
TCPIPv4
TCPIPv6
File and Printer Sharing
Microsoft Client

On my other Window 7 Computers I have only Workgroup enabled on them. I completely turned off the Homegroup which I find it useless if you know how to use workgroup the correct way. *cough* mapping.

Here is the funny part about it.

I have Teamviewer Activated on the Network.
It will connect to the other computers just fine using 192.168.2.2 and so on.

I can ping to the other computers without any loss packets.

It is only when I want to use the Windows Network in Windows XP that I have trouble with. It is acting as if it is missing a vital protocal or something but if that was the case then the PING wouldn't work if TCP/IP was not installed correctly

I thought maybe it may have been missing the IPX protocal but I know windows now and days doesn't use it. It is a lost protocol as well as NETBIOS. So that was disabled.

I do have iTunes installed but I completely stopped the service of Bonjour and removed that program from the service as well.

Finding the Windows XP computer from my Windows 7 computers work beautifully.

Supposidly to fix that problem you need to use a password on the XP machine. Also using the same User name and password on the XP machines will get rid of the password prompts.

Or if you don't want to use passwords on the XP machines you can switch to Guest only "less secure" by going into the local security policies on the XP machine.

Go to... Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy > Local Policies > Security Options

Scroll down to... Network Access: Sharing and security model for local accounts

Select... Guest only and not Classic. I checked on XP machine and Guest seems to be the default.

They actually all have the same user and password...

they are under the main "Administrator" Account... all of them.

I will double check it...but that is what comes up in the user for the XP computer. I will double check the user group and policies like you said and see what it does.

It will take me a few hours and a few more hours after I become sober again becuase it is saturday night. I plan to do something with this useless life I have.

I am actually setting up the Duel partition for A+ certification and don't ask me why I would think everyone would have migrated into Windows Vista or 7 by now.I will know people who have Office 2003 installed in their computer.

Nevermind. It just started to work all of a sudden...

I don't know these computers just have a mind of it's own.

I did change a registry Key...

I apologize. I should aware that your system is Windows 7 Home Premium. I suggest you follow the steps below.
1. Open “regedit” from Start Search box.
2. Locate to the following tab.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\
3. In the right pane, find the following key.
RestrictAnonymousSAM
Change its value to “0”.
If the issue still occurs, temporary disable antivirus and check the result again.

After I did that. It fixed it.

Cold anyone explain to me what the LSA does to the Windows XP computer?

I don't know but there is no way on earth you should have had to do that. I set up shares with my XP PRO machines twenty times and never once had to do any of that stuff.

So the 7th post down the list fixed it for you, although it didn't work for someone else LOL. Apparently what fixed it for him was to disable UAC. :sarc:

I always set up the workgroup on the Win 7 machine first, then set the advanced sharing options...public sharing bla bla bla, after that I just ran the network set up wizard on the XP machines and everything just worked. I never even used passwords either. I did it so many times I lost count and it always just worked for me.

Post with answers to this problem> XP machine can't see file shares from Win7 machine

I'm glad you got it working but I can't help to think there must have been an under lying cause.

SMB file sharing access> SMB File Sharing Accessing windows 7 shares from XP and other devices

What I am doing is changing it back to 1. Restarting the computer and seeing if i can still access my computers on the network.

I was reading on what LSA does and it is definitly not advised to do unless you do multiple things with it.

It creates Null Sessions:
How to enable null session shares on a Windows 2000-based computer

*UPDATE*
I changed it back to 1.

My network is still active. Very strange.
I honestly don't know what happen.
It just started to work. I am a computer nerd and I can usually catch these things.

Another thing I did was turned off "Simple File sharing" Maybe I had to reboot the computer for the system to take affect becuase I tried to access the network w/o the reboot and still didn't work.

Simple file sharing does indeed need to be disabled when using passwords so that may be the actual problem, although the other solutions may be useful in some situations.

This problem with XP and Win 7 sharing has been around for quite awhile, and like you, I'm determined to get to the bottom of it! ;)

Seriously....
Don't get me wrong. I love Windows 7 to death. They did a great job programming it.

they should definitly put a warning on the box like they do with those Cancer Sticks.

===MIX MATCH NETWORKS===

I hope you know what your doing when you install this on Mix Matched Networks because the programmers here at microsoft sure as hell don't....

Thank you for buying our software :)

Big smiles, Big Smiles!
