My 5 yr old HP ENVY keyboard is acting up. It came with WIN 8. I never liked WIN 8, so I loaded WIN 7 Pro with no problems. Thinking about buying a new HP Laptop. Problem: They all now come with WIN 10. I still have the WIN 7 PRO disk. I am trying to find out if this is possible. When I Google, all of the answers assume I stepped up from 7 to 10 and now want to step back to 7 and they say I must find certain drivers that may not be available.

What I really want is to wipe clean the 10 and fresh load the 7. Why is this not possible?? Aren't the necessary drivers on the 7 installation disk?

Before I do this, I may make 10 back up disks, just in case I want to go back later to 10.

No, all the necessary drivers are not on the W7 install dvd, not for new hardware. There are no usb 3.0 drivers in the W7 installer, and even if the motherboard does have usb 2.0 ports, the keyboard might still not function during the install. They may work fine in the bios but not the install, that`s your main challenge.

If it were me, I`d pull your W10 drive, put it in the desk drawer and install a solid state drive for W7, especially on a laptop.

Quite a few, not all, manufacturers have software on their website that lets you create a usb 3.0 W7 installer, you would need the install dvd or Iso file, a 4 GB usb stick, and of course the program.

It`s very simple to do.

Complementing Brien explanation:
- The best solution, as mentioned, is to take out he HDD and install a SSD. If you succeed with win 7 installation, you can buy a device to put the HDD in the place of the ODD so you'll have the speed of a SSD and space of a HDD. That's what I have. (128G SSD and 1T HDD)
- Even if possible, it's a hard task. Most of us has made it and can help you on it. Read my tutorial Create a Windows 7 USB flash installation with new drives for new MB's - Windows 7 Help Forums

- If your Win 7 is a OEM, as it has been installed on your current laptop, you wont be able to install on the new Laptop. You'll have to buy another license.
