wiping clean solid state hd

i am doing a clean all on a 240 gig ssd,crucial in the command screen, i have selecteddisk #0
the commandnd was diskpart-clean all ,
i am prompted with, virtual disk service error
clean is not allowed in the disk containing the current boot
system,pagefile crashdump or hibernation volume.
wht do i do now,

I take it you're trying to wipe your OS disk? If so and you want to format it to perform a clean install of Windows you need to boot from your Windows disk or bootable USB, Windows can't wipe the disk that it's operating from. Follow the tutorial linked below for instructions.

thanx for reply,question. in the windows 7 custom install screen there are selections format and delete
do one of these clean a partition? this is a new ssd drive replacing the old one,and there is none of my stuff to lose as it is on seperate hdd, will it mess up any thing in the drive or computer to delete or format here.i have stubborn trovi virus in the new drive, whtcha think

Use the format option, it wipes the drive or cleans it as you mention.

You almost had it, but as mentioned you can't perform those commands whilst booted to that drive. Instead do this:

1. Boot from the Windows installation DVD/USB.
2. At the languages screen, press SHIFT+F10
3. A cmd window will open, In it type this hitting enter after each command:

diskpart
select disk 0
clean

You are done. Now close the cmd window and install as normal.

Note : there is no need to use CLEANALL - it performs unnecessary writes to the SSD that shortens its life span. The CLEAN command is all that is required.

I would do a secure erase of the SSD to really clean it up - this is not a HDD. After that you get much better performance.

Unless you want to make data irretrievable by all but forensics methods, Clean All is overkill as stated.

Clean command wipes the partition table and boot code which is all that can interfere with a new install.

But if you have no install problems, then deleting the partitions during install is sufficient.

You should never run clean all on an SSD, as stated a couple of times above, the clean command is all that is needed or a secure erase. Golden gave good instructions above, make sure your sata controller is set to AHCI, have only the SSD installed at the time of the install and follow these instructions http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html You will have a great install.
