Wireless adapter turns off each reboot?

I'm pretty confused, and I'm hoping someone here can help me. Last week I took my laptop into Best Buy for a diagnostic due to some issues. After I picked it up, I noticed that every time I restart/turn on the computer, the wireless adapter turns on for a couple of seconds then shuts back off, and I have to manually press the adapter button twice for it to turn back on. I've never had this happen before.... and I reinstalled the OS last night at the recommendation of Best Buy because of the other issues, yet this adapter thing is still happening. The wireless works perfectly fine after I turn it on, but normally my adapter turns on automatically.

Does anyone know why this might be happening and what I can do to fix it? Right now it's just more of an annoyance that I have to turn the adapter on every time, but I'm worried that means something is wrong? Like I said, this didn't start happening until a week ago.

The laptop is an HP G60, running windows 7 home premium. The adapter is an Atheros AR5007.

You could check the power settings in the properties for the adapter. Your system might be turning it off to conserve power. Also you might check your power settings in control panel to see if it is set to the minimum power settings which could turn off the adapter.
Some laptops I have seen with bios settings having to do with adapters on and off.

I have dos 6.22, wfwg 3.11, win98, 2000 and xp VHD's available for testing. MS's Virtual PC works great.
Hi there, thanks for the reply! =) I do know what you're talking about for the conserving power, and I tried unchecking the option to turn it off to save power, but that didn't work. I just checked on the power settings, and that's set to maximum performance with no power savings, so it doesn't look like that is it either. =/

Ok, about the only advice that I can give at this point is to check the wireless adapter's driver versions and go to HP and see if there is a new one.

There could be a bios update that you might need as well as driver update.

And, you did check in bios to see whether there is a setting for boot power on/off for adapters?

I did check the drivers, and I'm up to date on all of them.

And I'm afraid I'm not too savvy about computers in some ways... how do I check in the bios? And where would I find out if there are bios updates?

I registered here because I have the exact same computer (CQ60) and I'm having the exact same problem. I've tried everything including drivers and bios. If I find an answer I'll return and let you know.

I had this problem too. You need the HP Wireless Assistant for Windows 7- ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp44501-45000/sp44700.exe

Once installed, open the HP Wireless Assistant and click Properties button. Check the box next to "Independent controls for installed wireless devices." Then click "Turn All On" button. On next boot it will be enabled!

Yes that is the solution. Sorry but after figuring it out myself I'd forgotten to return to post the results. Thanks for posting the fix here.

Awesome, Techmi26. Thanks so much. Seems like bad policy to make fundamental hardware functionality dependent on HP utilities.
