Wireless Connectivity at boot...slow to 'identify'

Greetings,

Recently I've been having issues with my wireless connection taking 30 seconds or longer to connect at startup. It says it's 'identifying' when I hover the mouse pointer over the network icon in the system tray. Once wireless is connected internet works fine.

I disabled IPv6, based on an old post I saw in the forums on this site, but that didn't change the connectivity speed.

I did notice something in Task Manager processes...when I boot up, DNS Client service seems to take quite a while to load. Once it's loaded, it appears at that point that wireless identifies and connects. So my guess is it has something to do with the DNS Client service.

I have recently (in the last week or so) set up a wireless connection to a friend's wireless printer when I go over to his house, but the 'identifying' wireless internet connection issue didn't happen right after setting up the wireless printer connection...it was 3 or 4 days after that.

My system specs are in my profile.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Brent

Do you use windows to manage your connection or did Toshiba preload some other pointless wireless utility?

Hey Sub Styler,

Thanks for the quick reply!

I use Windows Network and Sharing Center/Manage Wireless Networks. I don't use any Toshiba wireless utility.

Notsure how it could have happened without user intervention but you could check that these network services arent loading by the "delayed start" option in Control Panel > Administrative tools > Services. (or type services into to control panel and use the one with the Cog icon.

Failing that perhaps it's just general startup degradation caused over time by software installs, and the DNS Client service is taking longer because windows is still loading other things in the background.

You could try something like Prio to permanently increase the priority of this process slightly and see if that helps.
