My problem is that when I am using my DELL laptop, the wireless icon in the left bottom corner suddenly becomes inactive and I lose network access. the immediate solution has been to restart the laptop and the icon is re-activated. However, the problem is also faced by some colleagues of mine and restarting is not working for all. what could be wrong and what is the solution? Please help

Under the Connection Tab ...

There should be three boxes ..

First one should say ..

Connect automatically when in range ...

Tick that box ....

Lost IP Address

I have seen several laptops with the same problem.
This solution may solve your problem. Worth a try!

Click Start
Click Control Panel
Open Device Manager
Double click Network Adapters
Right click on Wireless Network Adapter
Select Properties
Select Advanced
Select Network Address
If nothing is entered in the Value Box or Not Present is checked then:

Click the Start button
Type: cmd

At the top of the Start menu, cmd.exe should appear.
Click on cmd.exe.

A black command box will appear with a blinking cursor.

At the blinking cursor, type: ipconfig /all
Press Enter.

Below the heading "Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection" look for
- Default Gateway
Write down the Address (XXX.XXX.X.X)

Go back and enter the address into the Value Box.

Click OK and you are finished.

You should now have a steady signal with no internet dropouts.

Hope that helped you.
