I recently changed ISP to BT (Big mistake, and lots of problems). When I received my Home Hub 4 I connected wirelessly but as I had problems I was told to connect with the ethernet cable and disconnect the wireless connection. The problem is that every morning when I turn on the computer the wireless connection has re-connected so I am connected wirelessly AND with the cable. How can I stop the machine reconnecting automatically every time I turn on the computer please?

Hi .... Did BT not mean for you just to try the Lan Connection ... I would find it unacceptable that you can not use your Wireless Connection ... I would suggest you get in touch with them again and get it sorted ...

Hi Maxie, thanks for your reply. Sorry, I haven't made it very clear.

I would rather connect by Ethernet cable although the wireless connection works fine. BT commented that two devices were connected to the internet in my home although the only device is the laptop. (I have had terrible problems with BT) BT then pointed out that as I was connected wirelessly and by cable this counted as two devices and told me to turn off the wireless connection as it was using bandwidth. So I did, but every morning when I turn on the computer the wireless connection has re-connected and I just wondered how to stop this. Sorry I am not much of a techy!

Unfortunately I couldn't find anything like the options displayed in that link. I wonder if the link relates to a different operating system. I couldn't find anything like it through "Control Panel".

The option to change the order of access did not work but I will try the Metric change and see what happens but this is getting a bit beyond this silver surfer. It may just be easier to disconnect each time I start up and actually I don't think it makes much difference to the download speed. Thanks for your help it really is appreciated.

Most welcome ... It should not make a lot of difference to your Bandwidth .... All depends on what Package you have ..

I pay for unlimited download and on a good day I am getting 10 Mbps download speed so quite happy. Unfortunately occasionally I get .03 Mbps or even nothing and BT can't give me an explanation. Having just moved house I have better things to do than go into battle with BT who don't seem to be able to help. Thank heavens for the forums.

Thanks for your contribution, much appreciated.

I got quite a good deal from BT. Broadband £8 a month for first 6 months then £16 for next 12 months and £18 thereafter. I was paying about £21 with Virgin. I just can't find anyone at BT who knows what they are talking about without "referring to a colleague" and not phoning back when promising to do so and that is after a 30 minute wait for my call to be answered. The online chat isn't any better. I lost my connection for two days and eventually they discovered there was a fault at the exchange but when it was rectified they told me that it was "JUST ONE OF THOSE THINGS"!

Yeah I used to be with them but had a very bad experience ... Then switched to Virgin which has been all good so far they have a loos of Service policy which means if your net is down for so long you get a discount ... Has never happened yet though ... But pleased to see you got a good deal :)
