Wireless Mouse without USB is this possible

I have a Sony Laptop Windows 7 with 3 USB ports one in use with a TV connection and want to add a wireless mouse BUT not using the USB is this possible? if so what is model/make and sources.

I dont think this is possible as the antenna/receiver for the mouse has to be connected to your computer via a USB port.... if you are concerned about not having enough USB ports, you can add a USB hub for around $10.00...

If your laptop has built in bluetooth it "might" be possible. I say might because some manufacturers bluetooth devices are crippled so they only work with their specific USB bluetooth adapter. My father has an Acer laptop and his mouse works with the built in bluetooth but his keyboard doesn't, so he still ends up using a USB bluetooth adapter. I think they are both Logitech so go figure.

Two models to consider on Amazon first at about £18 but not for Win 7 I think although may work

I think Bluetooth is the answer to avoid tying up a USB (I have only 3) but would need rechargable battery (as my wife would never turn it off) Auto switch off would be good too.

I have Logitech's rechargable Bluetooth mice in every rig. You never need batteries, rechargable or normal; just put the mouse on charger every night, and it's fully charged when you wake up.

This for instance is a good choice. Multifunctional buttons, full charge is enough for several days of heavy use. Fully charged in two hours. Costs a bit more than an average mouse, but quality comes never free.

I don't know whether that Logitech mouse has a built in rechargeable battery. If it does, I'd stay away from such product. It's much more practical to use a normal battery type of mouse, AA or AAA.

My father has two cordless mice, a full sized one with extra buttons he uses at home and a small basic one for travel. The full sized mouse is rechargeable and you can see the Lazar turn off automatically if it hasn't been used for a while. It recharges in a cradle. The mini travel mouse uses regular triple A batteries. The wireless USB dongle stores in the bottom of the mouse when not in use. It also turns the mouse off automatically when you put it in the storage slot.

First, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Could you be more specific? As I mentioned, my recommendation was based on my own experience. The mouse I'm using with this laptop is over 5 years old Logitech MX 1000 Bluetooth Laser mouse, with built-in rechargeable battery. Never had any problems, always working perfect. When empty, it's fully charged in about 2 to 3 hours. When I forget to charge it, it has enough power to serve me for about 4 to 5 days, 4 to 8 hours a day.

Please tell me what is the reason why I, or any other user, should stay away from it? Why is it more practical to use normal batteries and be without mouse when you forgot to buy new ones?

I don't find any valid arguments to support your statement in your post. I'm waiting you to post more specific reasons why other members should not use a rechargeable mouse.

This is spot on and I would probably add get a powered hub and connect all the TV connections to it since it should be closer to power with the TV there, then you can simply disconnect the hub from the laptop and all your TV connections remain ready for next time your connect.

I'd also recommend the Logitech Unifying Mouse, the Unifying USB dongle is very small and works with quite a few Logitech devices /o the need to add another USB communications device, I use my wireless keyboard and mouse with it and both go to sleep when not being used, the keyboard is supposed to have the batteries last for 3 years under normal use ad the mouse is rechargeable.

Went with Trust mouse from Amazon for <£20 inc P&P seems to have good reports from users.

Yes, there are drivers and software involved in getting it to work. The software may be optional depending on your hardware. I didn't setup the laptop so I'm just going by what he told me. I just purchased a Logitech Wireless Trackball with a Unifying Receiver. My desktop doesn't have Blue-tooth so I have to use the supplied wireless receiver. Windows 7 installed the driver when I plugged it in. I installed the latest driver from Logitech anyway. By itself the Unifying driver/software will let you manage and connect compatible wireless devices. Logitech also offers Setpoint software to manage some of the custom extra keys on their keyboards and mice. You don't need it installed to use the hardware, it just adds extra features. I have it installed to make use of some features on my keyboard that wouldn't work otherwise. In the case of my fathers laptop, I believe one of the devices is Unifying and the other isn't. They are both made by Logitech but bough separately at different times. I have a very limited experience with Blue-tooth devices so your mileage may vary.

He used the software bundled with his Acer laptop to setup the built in Bluetooth. I think it was his mouse that worked with the built in, and the keyboard that wouldn't. I know we e-mailed back and forth quite a bit trying to get it to work. Not having a laptop myself or anything Bluetooth I wasn't really much help.
