Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration

Hello there dear friends.

I just registered to your forum searching for help to a very persistent and annoying problem i have been facing.

While my internet works fine, many times a day (every day) the connection will fail and a yellow exclamation pyramid will appear at my connection status. When i perform a troubleshoot at my connection the problem is recognized as Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration and the problem is immediately repaired.

Now as you understand this is a very annoying problem because i am unable to perform many internet functions demanding time as downloading a file or playing an online game because i will drop every once and a while. I noticed that many people have been facing this problem but they couldent connect at all in the internet, as you understand my problem differs because i can connect to the internet but i get dropped every once and a while.

I am using a wireless router: airties rt-205
my laptops network card is a realtek rtl8191se
and i am using windows 7 home premium 32bit.

Before you ask i have already updated my networks card and routers drivers to the latest ones.

I beg you masterminds of windows 7 forums please help me solve this very annoying problem thats killing all the fun of my internet.

Hi BlitzGreek, welcome to the forums

My next door neighbour had the same issues but it turned out to be a fault with the router. You could try 1 thing...Turn the router off, press and hold the reset button (found on the back of the router) for 5-10 seconds then power on again.

   Note

This will completely reset the router to factory settings without reverting to previous firmware. It can take up to 2 minutes for the connection to be fully restored.

ISP's tend to send router updates up the line but this can cause connectivity issues

Have you tried scanning the area to see if you are using a clear wireless channel?

It would be worth while to run the Xirrus wifi inspector to make sure you are using a clear channel. You can change the channel to an unused one by going into your routers set up page.

It can also help to designate your connection security and encryption. Set your router to use WPA2 and AES "not mixed" also do the same when you set up your wireless connection.

Checking my connection i can see my security is wpa personal and my encruption is TKIP.

I really have absolutely no knowledge on the subject, i dont know if my security type and encryption are good or causing the problem, so i am based at your advices.

Once you run the software it should be really easy to find an unused channel, you will be able to see which channel you are using and your neighbors connections also.

After you find a clear unused channel go into your routers page by typing the default gateway into your browser. Look around for a place where you can change the channel to one that isn't being used as per the Xirrus software.

I'm not familior with your particular router so can't say exactly where that setting might be.

Keep in mind that the latest firmware for your router was back in 07 which was before Windows 7 came out, therefore your router may not be compatible with Windows 7 and a new router may be required unless you can find a more recent firmware.

I think i finally found the channel you mentioned. Xirrus says i am using channel 11, and i can see that one of my neighbours is using channel 11 too. Could this be the cause of the problem?

And if yes what channel number should i enter at my routers interface to change it?

Wow you are right and the irony is i bought this router just a week ago. i guess i should have made a more careful selection before i bought it.

Are you using "homegroup" for networking, or workgroup?

Are you using "homegroup" for networking, or workgroup?

I am using the homegroup networking option..

I already changed it and set it to channel 2, which from what i can see in xirrus nobody from my neighbors is using. I really hope that this was the problem because buying a new router would set me in expenses i cant really afford at the time.

Give it a day or two to make sure it's not dropping connections anymore than report back in.

Homegroups certainly doesn't have a thing to do with dropping wireless connections but obviously wireless channel cross over does.
