Wireless Network Connection Doesn't Have Valid IP Confi

Yesterday, I installed Windows 7 Home Premium as an upgrade to Vista Home Premium. I followed instructions carefully and everything went well...or so I thought...until I tried to get online (via Linksys Wireless N Router which has always been able to communicate with a Linksy Wireless N Broadband Router in the same room). Until, now, that is. When trying to get online, I get the message, "Wireless Network Connection Doesn't Have Valid IP Configuration."

I'm not a techie, so trying to understand the postings for this problem was difficult for me, if not impossible.

Would it be best for me to contact Microsoft Support? Help! I have to use my wife's computer to get online and I'm running the risk of being thrown out of the house.Local Area Connection" Doesn't have a valid ip config

Hello Kodka, Welcome to the Windows 7 forum! :)

Goto Start->enter cmd, right click the cmd icon, and select to Run as administrator

Then enter in the CMD Window: ipconfig /all

Post the results of this command to this forum.
You can select the output with your mouse after you click in the left uppercorner of the CMD window (with the small icon of cmd) and select edit , Mark, then Copy, and then paste it in this forum with <ctrl><v> keys.

If you need more help just ask!

Best regards,

Problem Solved

Good day.

I contacted Microsoft Technical Support and, a knowledgeable associate determined that my communication with the router should be WEP, not WPA as I had previously. Can connect without any difficulty now. Thanks for trying to help. I do appreciate it.

Happy days are here again.

Uh, well the only problem with that is that WEP is old and easily crackable, it's better than NOTHING but only a little :)

I can't believe that W7 doesn't support WPA? I'd try to get WPA working again myself, maybe google more for Windows 7 WPA setup instructions...

Hello guys, my laptop displays exactly de same message "Wireless Network Connection. doesn't have a valid IP configuration" . But I don't believe that the problem would be with the wireless because we've got others laptops working properly in our house. Plus, my laptop was working well 2 days ago and suddenly it has just stopped to get the internet working.

Could I post here the information from my laptop ,following the procedure posted here and perhaps one of you guys could , please, give me a hand?

Hello Gabi,
Ive had this problem and i figured how to solve it. If you have tryed to portforward on your router remove the gaming application.
On your routers gateway go to Connections and find your computer by IP or Name.
Delete your computer off the list and on your Windows7 PC connect again with your password if or not.

Thanks
-Shaun

:D I found the answer by a lady on this forum yesterday but can't find it again. I am most grateful to her for solving a problem I've had for over 2 years...namely having to reset my router every morning before my laptop would connect to the internet.
Here it is; so simple: Click on the internet access button on the task bar...Right click on your Wireless Network Connection and choose 'Properties'...Choose the Connection tab...Check the box for Connect even if the network is not broadcasting its name (SSID)
