Windows 7 home premium 32bit
zonealarm basic firewall
wlancard dell 1450 usb

Info:
the card never had a vista or windows 7 driver. A computer skilled
took out a folder from the windows xp installer.
Through device manager the folder is installed as driver, and the wlan card works.
I wanted to use ubuntu 'remote terminal server'. Connected via pc to pc lan cross over cable.
Maybe the connection succeded because ping test was ok. But never made the
program 'remote terminal server' work.
At a point zonealarm made trouble, allthough disabled.
Shutting down computer worked.

Error: Next time I turned on the computer, wlan didn't work. The wlan card makes
the connection but there is a yellow triangle on the wifi icon in taskbar.
Under network it keeps hanging, messaging 'identifying'.

I tried this:
Reinstalling zonealarm basic.
Reinstalling wlan card folder driver.
Didn't work.

Now I don't know what to do.
Suggestions?
Thanks.

SInce this isnt a supported Win7 wlan adapter, you may be looking at a purchase of a new one. Unless you can get that tech to do his magic again? Or do you have the driver files he used in a folder somwhere still?

Somehow an previous answer on this thread got deleted. I didn't do it.
He suggested this
in cmd
netsh winsock reset catalog and netsh int ip reset reset.log hit
It didn't solve the error, but the reset procedure as such ran successfully.
There is still limited access and a yellow triangle on the taskbar network icon.
I find it strange, this error could occure, because when I connected the ubuntu
and windows 7 computer I made no config changes to the
windows 7 computer. All config took place on the ubuntu computer. Stil the
windows 7 computer's network got messed up.
I also tried cmd ipconfig _release and _renew. No success.
I understand, I can mess up the network. I don't understand, it can't be
resolved by uninstalling and reinstalling the wlan card driver.
Wlancard and computer runs fine running a windows xp and ubuntu installation.
So it's not a hardware error.
Isn't there a procedure that completely resets all network settings.
I simply don't understand, if I remove the networkconnection and
make a new one, the limited access error is stil there.

To Darryl Licht:
I have the folder, and I can reproduce the folder anytime.
I have bought two windows 7 wlandcards. None of them can run
stable above 30ft and through several walls.

My point was this tech did some workaround because the wlan card wasnt supported by Win7. What are these other wlan cards?

So they do work, but the distance is limited... thats different than do not work...

Suggestions to improve reception: Make sure that your routers antennas are straight up and down (vertical). Move your router to as high in the room as possible. Look into ddwrt alternative firmware for your router, it lets you boost the broadcast strength!
